Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance at the Racecourse Ground for Saturday afternoon's League One clash between Wrexham and Peterborough United.

The legendary Scot, who celebrated his 83rd birthday on New Year's Eve, was filmed arriving at the stadium by supporters shortly after 1.15pm. The former United manager's son, Darren, is the Peterborough boss and will be aiming to lead his side to a first win since December 14 this afternoon after a run of three defeats in their last four matches.

After missing out on promotion in the League One play-offs for the second season running last term, Peterborough had ambitions of making it third time lucky this campaign in their quest to return to the Championship after relegation in 2021/22. However, they currently find themselves 19th in the standings, 14 points shy of the play-off places.

The Posh boss, 52, is currently in his fourth spell in charge as manager of the League One club, first managing them between 2007 and 2009. He has also had spells at Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers.

Wrexham, meanwhile, are eyeing up a third successive promotion after making the step up from League Two last season. Phil Parkinson's team currently sit third in the standings, two points behind second-placed Birmingham City and table-toppers Wycombe Wanderers.

The Welsh outfit will be eyeing a return to winning ways this afternoon after their first game of 2025 ended in a 2-1 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell on New Year's Day. That ended an eight-game unbeaten run in League One.

Former United chief Ferguson has watched his son's team twice in the past two weeks, watching their 3-0 defeat to Mansfield Town on Boxing Day and their 3-1 reverse to Barnsley between Christmas and New Year. He will be hoping to see his son's team get three points this afternoon at the third time of asking.
