Skipton seconds triumph as firsts look to complete Thornensians double
SKIPTON’S seconds welcomed the under-strength and undermanned Yarnbury thirds to Sandylands at the weekend and hammered their visitors 64-5, writes Craig Hillary.
The home side had to lend the opposing side five volunteers, so it was no surprise Skipton were on the attack from the off.
Ryan Ambler and Jake Barritt scythed through the opposition and fed winger Silas Holden, who scored the first try.
Barritt followed up with a run in for his first of four tries.
Later on in the first half came, flanker George Smithson roll back the years to collect the ball on his own 22, and bamboozled the Yarnbury defenders to run in and score.
Skipton led 38-0 at the break, while in the second half, prop Michael Murray sold a superb dummy to canter over the whitewash for what was Skipton’s eighth try.
Following a ninth Skipton try from Andy Maclean, complacency and ill discipline from the home side led to a Yarnbury consolation try.
Like the men's seconds, Skipton Roses also had a game, with the ladies coming out on top too.
They won 27-24 in a thrilling National 2 Challenge North clash away to Yarnbury.
Skipton’s try scorers were Olivia Schepisi, Steph Roe, Babs Thomas, Laura Ackroyd and Lottie Knowles, while Emma Wall added a conversion.
Skipton’s firsts had a rest weekend, but return to Counties Three Yorkshire action at Thornensians on Saturday.
