Skipton swimmers break records at National Winter Championships
Several records were broken by Skipton Swimming Club at the Swim England National Winter Championships (December 5 to December 8).
On day one, Sam Smith excelled in the 50m butterfly heats, setting a new personal best of 24.70 to secure a place in the junior final.
This time also broke the club record previously held by Ned Sharp.
In the final, Sam bettered his record with a time of 24.56, finishing in fourth place.
Sean Smith also set a new club record in the 100m individual medley heats, swimming 59.08 to qualify for the junior final.
In the final, he improved his time to 58.84, re-breaking his own record.
Micah Warner also swum in the 100m individual medley heats with a time of 1.02.85.
Day two saw more records fall, with Jack Jenkinson setting a new club record in the 200m freestyle with a time of 1.51.85, beating the previous record held by Ned Sharp.
Sam Smith also set a new personal best in the event, swimming 1.53.04.
Sean Smith then set a new lifetime best of 26.87 in the 50m backstroke, breaking the previous club record held by Roan Sherriff - and becoming the first Skipton Swimming Club 17-year-old to break the 27-second barrier.
On day three, Poppy Dunne broke the club record in the 100m individual medley, swimming 1.06.70 to beat the previous record held by Paige Fenton.
The men's 50m freestyle saw a personal best from Jack Jenkinson, who swam 23.40, and a new club record from Sam Smith, who swam 22.95 to qualify for the junior final.
This made Sam the first Skipton swimmer to break the 23-second barrier in the 50m freestyle.
Sean Smith also swum a time of 24.03.
Later in this session, in the 100m butterfly, Sean Smith displayed a strong front end to swim a 57.71.
Sam then went on to break the 17-year-old club record in the 100m butterfly, swimming 54.92 to qualify for the open B-final.
Sam ultimately placed 7th in the 50m freestyle junior final and 10th in the 100m butterfly open final.
The final day saw Sam Smith swim a new lifetime best of 50.59 in the 100m freestyle, qualifying for the junior final.
Sean Smith also set a new lifetime best in the 50m breaststroke, swimming 29.85 to place 31st nationally in the junior category.
Sam Smith went on to place 10th in the junior final.
