Sky Sports were forced to apologise after Michael van Gerwen dropped an X-rated statement ahead of his final against Luke Littler.

The 2019 world champion brushed aside Chris Dobey in the semi-finals on Thursday, January 2. The Netherlands star beat the Englishman 6-1 and remained in control throughout the match-up.

Van Gerwen will now face teenage sensation Littler in the final on Friday night. If he would defeat Littler, the Dutchman was asked by presenter Abigail Davies where a victory like that would rank in his history of world championship wins.

The 35-year-old darting superstar gave a pretty blunt answer, and failed to keep his emotions in check.

"That's something to worry about tomorrow," answered van Gerwen.

"I don't care. I'm only in the final, I've won f*** all yet! So I need to make sure I'm doing good tomorrow."

Davies was quick to address the bad choice of words. "We are going to have to apologise for that language," she added.

Littler played shortly after this interview against fan favourite Stephen Bunting, and while the Liverpool man was bang on form coming into the match, he was well-beaten by Littler, also in a 6-1 score line.

Littler, who boasts a whopping 102 average so far this tournament, says he is aware of his inexperience coming up against van Gerwen, but is determined to win.

"I have gained loads of experience over the last year," said Littler.

"Michael has been in numerous finals; this is only my second, but I know where I went wrong last year, and I'm sure I will fix it. It would mean everything to lift this title, but my only focus right now is winning seven sets tomorrow night.

"I felt very confident tonight. The best I felt was against Nathan in the quarter-finals, but I'm just glad I'm playing with such belief.

"I'm hitting the right shots when I need to. Stephen was right behind me throughout the game, so I couldn't afford to step off the gas."
