After nearly three weeks of captivating action, we've reached the final of this year's PDC World Darts Championship.

Tournament favourite Luke Littler will face three-time winner Michael van Gerwen in a bid to break the Dutchman's record as the youngest world champion of all time.

Tonight's final at Alexandra Palace comes after a thrilling tournament that has already witnessed a few shocks, with world No.1 Luke Humphries knocked out before the quarter-final stage and former champion Gerwyn Price crashing out in the final eight after an incredible comeback win by Chris Dobey.

Guiding viewers through all the action has been Sky Sports presenter Emma Paton, with the 30-year-old cementing her place as the new face of darts coverage over the course of the tournament.

Having followed in the footsteps of the likes of Laura Woods, the 30-year-old has shone in the role and has quickly become a hugely popular figure amongst viewers. Having been at Sky Sports since 2012 and moving into presenting after initially working behind the camera, Paton has been tipped to land further big roles in the near future.

It is quite the achievement for someone who previously admitted she was only a casual fan of darts before moving into the role. In fact, before moving into broadcasting, Paton had a promising future in another sport altogether, having spent "some of the best years" of her life working alongside Olympians.

As a student at Loughborough University, she was a promising 400m runner and trained alongside former Commonwealth Games heptathlon champion Kelly Sotherton on the track. Paton was also coached by Aston Moore, who would go on to work with double world champion and Olympic silver medallist Katerina Johnson-Thompson.

"Some of the best years of my life were spent training at Loughborough University and mixing with arguably the best 400m runners in the country," the presenter told the Mirror.

"The coach who had the biggest impact on me was Kelly Sotherton's first coach, Aston Moore, who is now working with Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Kelly was probably coming towards the end of her career in heptathlon because of injuries and focusing more on 400m, and she was dragging me round in training sessions.

"If I ever got close to Kelly, it felt like a win. For a while I was living the life of an elite athlete and they were really good times - some brutal, brutal sessions, but I probably enjoyed the training more than competition."

However, while her work on the track was a serious business, Paton has also shown she has no fear in embracing the silliness of darts culture and even agreed to 'marry' a fan ahead of this year's World Championships, with photos of her in a wedding dress soon emerging online.

But all was not as it seemed, as the get-up was really all part of a skit filmed for Paddy Power, for which she is a brand ambassador. In the advert, a darts fan is seen having Sunday dinner with his wife and mother-in-law as he discusses the night he had at Ally Pally the night before.

As he plays down talk of any drunken antics, Paton bursts through the door in a wedding dress and holding a bouqet, revealing that he had proposed to her the night before. It is then revealed that he had held up a sign that read 'Emma, will u marry me?' which had captured the presenter's attention and led her to say 'Yes, I do'.

After being caught in the awkward situation, the fan offers to set the presenter up with one of his friends, leading her to storm out before the closing message urges fans to "think before they write this Christmas."

The skit was a hit with fans, plenty of whom have tried their own luck by holding up signs asking to marry the glamorous presenter.

Back in the real world, however, little is known about Paton's love life. She is rumoured to be in a relationship with a man known only as Hannibal, having revealed in a previous social media post that they had bought a property together - but while they still follow each other on social media, it is unknown if they are still together, with no public updates about their relationship for several years.
