New Sky Sports footage reveals Arsenal penalty claim vs Brighton that VAR 'missed'
New footage has revealed that Arsenal could have been awarded a penalty during their clash against Brighton. The Seagulls held Mikel Arteta's side to a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening, denting the Gunners' title hopes.
Ethan Nwaneri fired Arsenal ahead inside the opening quarter of an hour, becoming the first player in the club's history to score two Premier League goals before turning 18. Shortly before half-time, the north Londoners were denied a penalty following a collision between Matt O'Riley and Gabriel Magalhaes inside the box.
Just as Arsenal went to deliver a corner, the Brighton midfielder appeared to fall over and, in doing so, impede his marker, pulling him to the ground. Neither Anthony Taylor, the on-field referee, nor Darren England, the Video Assistant Referee, adjudged O'Riley to foul Gabriel.

The incident has since divided opinion on social media, with many claiming that Arsenal should've been given a chance to double their lead from 12-yards. Then, in the second-half, Joao Pedro netted a controversial equaliser for the Seagulls.
Taylor adjudged the Brighton striker to have been fouled by William Saliba inside the Gunners' box following a clash of heads – and VAR agreed. The decision raised eyebrows in the Arsenal technical area – as well as in the away end and on social media.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Arteta questioned the call, claiming that Saliba actually won the duel. The Spaniard said: "Well, I’ve never seen a decision like this in my career, I asked the boys if they have, and no one has seen this before.
"When you look at the incident, the player, Joao touching the ball then Saliba touching the ball, you can see contact there? If I expect it [to be overturned]? I checked after three seconds they said they already checked."
So, had Arsenal been award a penalty for the incident between O'Riley and Gabriel in the first-half, they could have waltzed away victorious. On the Gunners' performance, Arteta added: "Well first of all on the game, a really tough place to come, I think we started the game well, first half scored a great goal.
"We didn’t really concede anything but in the second half we drop our standard level with the ball giving too many balls away, that never allowed us really to generate momentum and dominance in the game to control and go for the second goal."
Then, on if his side deserved to win the game, Arteta replied: "Well in the defensive I think that we did a lot of great things. With the ball we should have done better and without creating much, it was a really tight game. Not enough to win it and with the decision as well."
