Slovakia and Romania both qualified for the Euro 2024 knockout stage after an entertaining 1-1 draw in Frankfurt.
With both sides aware a point would be enough to send them through, Romania midfielder Razvan Marin's first-half penalty cancelled out Ondrej Duda's headed opener for Slovakia.
Neither side appeared to settle for the point until the closing stages.
Romania qualified for the last 16 as group winners along with second-placed Belgium, while Slovakia progressed as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Both sides into the last-16 at Euro 2024
19:24 , Marc Mayo
Romania and Slovakia both reached the round of 16 at Euro 2024 after playing out a 1-1 draw in Frankfurt.
Both sides knew they would reach the knockout stages for only the second time in their nations’ history if they drew, but it was an open and well contested affair, rather than a cagey one.
Elsewhere in Group E, Belgium drew 0-0 with Ukraine, meaning the group ended with every side on four points.
Romania finished top on goal difference and will now play a third-place side from Group C or E, while Slovakia finished third themselves and now face England or Spain in the round of 16.

Goalscorer Duda whips in a corner for Slovakia, but it’s cleared well by Ratiu. Slovakia right back into the final third with a free-kick from a presentable distance wide left. That too is cleared by Romania, this time by Stanciu.

Slovakia into the lead and top of Group E as it stands! It’s Duda, who scored against Wales at 2016, to rise highest and plummet a head back across goal in the direction from whence it came. Cross from Kucka was sumptuous by the way.

Approaching kick-off now!

Chance to make history
16:39 , Dom Smith
Romania and Slovakia have both reached the knockout stages of the European Championships once each - Romania the quarter-finals when the tournament had just 16 teams back in 2000 and Slovakia the round of 16 back in 2016.
An opportunity for them both to last until the latter stages of the competition once more. Could be a cagey one, even if Romania manager Iordanescu insists not...
Most open group in Euros history?
16:24 , Dom Smith
Plenty of people have been fascinated with how Group E has panned out. Each side has lost one and won one game heading into the deciding fixtures. All four sides therefore sit on three points.
And it is the very first time in Euros history that it has happened.
Every side could finish anywhere from top to bottom. It’ll be a fascinating watch to see how it all pans out tonight, both in Frankfurt and between Ukraine and Belgium in Stuttgart.
Romania not about to settle for a point
16:12 , Dom Smith
A draw in Frankfurt tonight would likely see both sides through to the last 16, but Romania boss Edward Iordanescu is not willing to sit on what they already have.
He said: “We are playing to qualify and want to finish first. If we win the group, at least theoretically, you have a certain advantage in terms of extra rest days and a [weaker] opponent.”
Theoretically, Edward, yes...

Complexion of Group E ahead of kick-off...
15:24 , Dom Smith
Romania sit top of Group E ahead of facing Slovakia at Euro 2024 this evening.
No group is as delicately balanced as this one, where each team has won one and lost one game to sit on three points.
Goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head record and maybe even fair play could figure in the equation and it is Romania who hold the narrow advantage going into this round of matches. Belgium play Ukraine at the same time in the other Group E game.
Slovakia couldn’t follow up their upset of Belgium with another win on Sunday, as they lost to Ukraine despite taking a first-half lead. Romania were beaten by the Belgians but created enough chances to have taken a point which would have sealed their passage to the knockouts.

Standard Sport's prediction for Slovakia vs Romania
15:10 , Dom Smith
This should be a fascinating rollercoaster of a group finale and this game in particular is hard to predict. Romania have produced the better displays so far and can continue a fine tournament by reaching the last-16.
Romania to win 2-1.
Romania team news
15:01 , Dom Smith
Romania welcomed veteran striker Denis Alibec back from injury off the bench against Belgium and he may be handed a start in this game.
Romania manager Edward Iordanescu may opt for the same line-up that beat Ukraine 3-0 in the opening game. Radu Dragusin of Tottenham Hotspur will likely start again at centre-back.
Slovakia team news
14:51 , Dom Smith
Francesco Calzona has named an unchanged team for both of Slovakia’s games so far and will likely stick with the same players once again, as Slovakia search for the point they need to reach the round of 16.
