Soccer Aid 2024 LIVE! England vs World XI charity match stream, result, latest reaction and updates
Soccer Aid 2024 - LIVE!
England earned their first Soccer Aid win since 2018 as they beat the World XI 6-3 at Stamford Bridge. The fixture was once again being staged to raise money for UNICEF, and total of more than £15million on the night took the tally raised since the first Soccer Aid match in 2006 well beyond the £100m mark.
There was a strong Chelsea connection to this year’s clash, with Mauricio Pochettino and Frank Lampard the two managers and Eden Hazard among the former Blues stars making their return to west London. Joe Cole was one of those and he opened the scoring after six minutes, firing home from a Jack Wilshere cross, but the class of the World XI front-line ensured there was an immediate response.
Hazard delighted the Stamford Bridge fans by curling a free-kick past, or rather through, David James, before Alessandro Del Piero made no mistake from close range after he was played in by Usain Bolt. England went in at the break level, though, thanks to a goal from Ellen White, who tapped home after brilliant work from Wilshere to become the first female scorer in Soccer Aid history.
The arrival of Tony Bellew and Paddy McGuinness as second-half goalkeepers ensured the goals continued to flow, with Dragons Den star Steven Bartlett netting a brace and Jermain Defoe getting on the scoresheet too. A penalty for the World XI from Billy Wingrove, after Patrice Evra had been dragged down, pulled it back to 5-3, raising slim hopes of a late comeback, but England slammed the door shut again as Theo Walcott’s calm finish capped a successful night on and off the pitch.

FT: England 6-3 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:46 , Matt Verri
We won’t get a second of added-time!
England have their first Soccer Aid win since 2018 - Robbie Williams absolutely loves it.
Steven Bartlett named player of the match for his two goals.
England 6-3 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:44 , Matt Verri
89 mins: Bartlett’s deep ball comes to Miniminter, who is clattered as he tries to knock it into space. Referee couldn’t care less.
Some very tired legs now - I imagine they are not desperate for much added-time.
England 6-3 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:41 , Matt Verri
86 mins: Bartlett could have scored about five goals.
Clean through again, takes his time before getting the shot away. Good save from Bellew, turned behind for a corner.
England 6-3 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:38 , Matt Verri
83 mins: We’re now at the stage where the former players are refusing to pass, very much in it for themselves.
Cole tries to dribble past anyone and everyone... falls at the first hurdle.
GOAL! England 6-3 World XI | Theo Walcott 81'
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:36 , Matt Verri
One goal for the World XI in the next few minutes and it really will be game on... but it’s come at the other end!
Carney scoops a great ball through to Walcott, he lifts a finish over the onrushing Bellew. Easy work.
England 5-3 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:33 , Matt Verri
77 mins: Bellew went over to the touchline while that penalty was being taken.
Got a bit of sledging from his old friend Mr Hearn... no surprise that the shove comes out in response.
GOAL! England 5-3 World XI | Billy Wingrove 76'
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:30 , Matt Verri
Boos around Stamford Bridge, as Hazard isn’t allowed to take it.
Wingrove steps up, fired into the bottom corner!
PENALTY WORLD XI!
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:30 , Matt Verri
Well then.
Brazier has dragged down Evra, penalty. Celebrity has to take it.
GOAL! England 5-2 World XI | Steven Bartlett 73'
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:28 , Matt Verri
Bellew looking for someone to throw a punch at.
He tries to blast the ball up the pitch, Bartlett charges it down and the ball bobbles in, off the post.
Bellew thinks it was handball - not given.
England 4-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:25 , Matt Verri
70 mins: Walcott from a tight angle, free-kick is destined for the top corner but Essien gets back onto the line and flicks a header onto the bar!
One-way traffic now - England are cruising towards a first win in six years.
England 4-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:24 , Matt Verri
69 mins: Great ball from Defoe, Bartlett is in again for England.
First touch is perfect, gets the shot away and Bellew does well to stick out a leg and deny him.
England 4-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:22 , Matt Verri
Bit of a delay here - think Bolt needs some treatment.
He’s pulled up a couple of times already tonight, but that one did look fairly serious.
And the stretcher is on - Bolt is carried off. Sad end to his night.
GOAL! England 4-2 World XI | Jermain Defoe 63'
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:19 , Matt Verri
England in charge now!
Defoe skips away from Bolt, who seems to pull his calf in the process.
Into the box, on his right foot, blasted past Bellew.
England 3-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:17 , Matt Verri
62 mins: Would be fair to say the players aren’t particularly respecting the two goalkeepers.
Grennan about 40 yards out as he tries his luck. Bellew keeps hold of that without any problems - just about reached him.
England 3-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:14 , Matt Verri
59 mins: Hazard skips away from Brazier, onto his right foot and whips an effort just wide of the far post.
Not convinced McGuinness had that covered...
England 3-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:12 , Matt Verri
57 mins: Bartlett bursting through for his second goal... until Essien says no. Hacks him down just outside the area.
Bellew organising his wall - not sure that’s the main problem here.
Defoe takes, straight at Bellew and he punches it away.
England 3-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:11 , Matt Verri
55 mins: Cole and Grennan both throw themselves in front of a shot from Bolt, almost as though they have Paddy McGuinness in goal behind them.
Takes a deflection off both, goal-kick given. Interesting.
GOAL! England 3-2 World XI | Steven Bartlett 53'
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:08 , Matt Verri
About seven seconds after coming on!
Walcott wants it squared, Bartlett has other ideas as he smacks a finish straight through Bellew’s legs.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:07 , Matt Verri
52 mins: Tough scenes for Cahill, who slips and stacks it as he goes to retrieve a ball. Bartlett and Brazier on for England, replacing Farah and Hiddleston.
Make that three changes - Hearn on to replace Brooker. Greeted by the Rocky theme song.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:05 , Matt Verri
50 mins: Swift England counter, Defoe finding Walcott and he slides a pass through to Grennan.
Briefly in goal, before Kemp slides in to clear. Bellew looks like he wants to fight the English players just for threatening to score.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:03 , Matt Verri
48 mins: Walcott and Defoe among those now on for England. Plenty of pace.
At the other end... what a save!
Bolt looks certain to score, completely free six yards out, but McGuinness sticks out a boot and somehow turns it away. Celebrates it like a goal.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 21:01 , Matt Verri
46 mins: Referee not having any of Robbie Keane’s fun.
The Irishman is on, and decides to dribble backwards as he takes kick-off. Whistle goes, free-kick England.
That’ll show him.
Here we go!
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:59 , Matt Verri
We’re up and running in the second-half!
Reminder that it’s now celebrities in goal. Paddy McGuinness for England, Tony Bellew for the World XI.
Stay tuned...
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:53 , Matt Verri
We’ve just had Tom Walker performing on the pitch at Stamford Bridge. Very strong.
That should be the end of the half-time schedule - second-half coming up next!
View from the dressing room
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:49 , Matt Verri
Eden Hazard has been reflecting on his first-half goal.
Free-kick was sent over the wall and just about past David James, who it would be fair to say had a very literal helping hand in the Belgian scoring.
Hazard is very grateful...

Joe Cole on target at Stamford Bridge!
Not for the first time. Jack Wilshere with the ball in, Cole did the rest with a brilliant touch and finish.
Her certainly enjoyed that.

Latest update on the money heading to UNICEF.
£6,407,623 has now been raised tonight - incredible sum.
Got to think that will get close to crossing the £10m mark by full-time.
Celebrity goalkeepers to come!
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:32 , Matt Verri
Could be a lot of fun in the second-half.
Tony Bellew and Paddy McGuinness will be the two goalkeepers. Shoot from anywhere and everywhere.
Magic moment!
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:24 , Matt Verri
Ellen White is the first female scorer in Soccer Aid history. Lovely moment for her.
And not half bad from Jack Wilshere, who sat Petr Cech down and rolled the ball across the face of goal.

HT: England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:19 , Matt Verri
And that’s half-time. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Cole opened the scoring, before World XI responded with goals from Hazard and Del Piero.
It’s level at the break though, after White’s equaliser. All to play for.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:18 , Matt Verri
45 mins: Bolt seems to have been clattered from behind by Broad, referee waves play on. Wilshere then brought down at the other end and the whistle does go.
The former Arsenal midfielder whips it in, Cahill can’t beat Essien in the air at the back post.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:16 , Matt Verri
42 mins: Evra has got bored of playing at centre-back, pops up at right wing.
Drives into the box, onto his left foot and whips an effort just wide. Harry Redknapp was being interviewed at the same time, and his reaction to that chance would suggest he is very keen to win this match.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:12 , Matt Verri
39 mins: Fury decides to shoot from 20 yards out, instead takes a divot three feet behind the ball and makes no contact at all. Pochettino cannot stop laughing on the bench.
Farah is on for Quek, he’s now up against Fury. Slightly different weight classes.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:11 , Matt Verri
37 mins: Wilshere has been ridiculously good, regardless of the amount of celebrities he is skipping past.
Squares it for Scott, who beats Kemp and then dinks a finish wide... before blaming White for not getting on the end of it. Hmmmm.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:08 , Matt Verri
35 mins: Hazard beats Hiddleston about three times in four seconds. Not really a fair fight.
Cole then concedes a free-kick, glares at the referee as though it’s the World Cup final. Got to respect it.
Fury is on for the World XI, replacing Adam.
England 2-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:06 , Matt Verri
33 mins: Broad brings down Essien, free-kick for the World XI in a good position.
Hazard clips it in, Broad rises highest in the middle to head it to safety.
GOAL! England 2-2 World XI | Ellen White 30'
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:04 , Matt Verri
The first female goal in Soccer Aid history!
All came from Wilshere, who sat Cech down, waited for the defenders to commit and then rolled the ball across the face of goal. White could not miss.
England 1-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:03 , Matt Verri
29 mins: Thompson in on goal, White waiting for a tap-in, but he goes for goal himself. Lifts the ball beyond the far post.
‘Selfish’ would not be an unfair description.
England 1-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 20:01 , Matt Verri
27 mins: Boooooooo.
Danny Dyer is off - he was hugely entertaining. About as angry as you’d expect during his 27 minutes on the pitch.
Replaced by Tom Hiddleston.
England 1-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:59 , Matt Verri
26 mins: Pochettino has his head in his hands, as Bolt misses another chance.
Hazard and Del Piero are running the show now, Bolt played in again. He tries to curl a striker into the far corner, but it bobbles just wide of the post.
Broad and Cahill are not particularly loving life right now.
England 1-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:57 , Matt Verri
24 mins: Very nearly 3-1!
Poor Broad tries to catch up with Bolt, that’s not a race he’s ever going to be winning.
Bolt from a tight angle, pokes an effort past James and against the post.
England 1-2 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:55 , Matt Verri
22 mins: Wilshere plays in White, offside flag is up though.
Plenty of action at both ends - reminder that in the second-half it will be celebrities in goal too.
Could have a record scoreline tonight.
GOAL! England 1-2 World XI | Alessandro Del Piero 19'
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:53 , Matt Verri
Lovely goal!
Bolt bursting into space, slides in Del Piero and he curls a first-time finish into the top corner.
England 1-1 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:50 , Matt Verri
16 mins: A couple of changes from Pochettino already.
Mack is off. We’ll assume he’s tired... either that or Pochettino was unimpressed with his work on the right wing. Probably the former.
GOAL! England 1-1 World XI | Eden Hazard 14'
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:47 , Matt Verri
Dyer flies in on Bolt, who is sent crashing to the floor. Free-kick for the World XI, just outside the area.
Hazard standing over it... and scores!
Clipped over the wall, James gets there but lets the ball squirm through.
England 1-0 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:45 , Matt Verri
12 mins: Believe it or not, the centre-back partnership of Kemp and Evra is being run ragged.
Grennan allowed to stroll straight through the middle, clean through on goal and he drags an effort wide. Should really have scored... then again it’s not actually his job.
England 1-0 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:43 , Matt Verri
10 mins: Biiiiig chance.
Hazard shrugs off Wilshere, glides into the box. Picks out Bolt at the back post, completely free... and he swings at thin air.
Del Piero then drives into the air, goes down and has his appeals for a penalty waved away. Not a particularly ‘friendly’ feel to this match in the early stages!
England 1-0 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:42 , Matt Verri
9 mins: Chaotic start to this match.
James hammers a ball forward, Evra has given up on defending so Cole is in on goal, but Cech charges off his line to clear the danger.
GOAL! England 1-0 World XI | Joe Cole 7'
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:40 , Matt Verri
England take an early lead!
Wilshere clips the free-kick in, Cole brings it down and lashes a strike through Cech’s legs. Brilliant finish.
England 0-0 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:39 , Matt Verri
5 mins: Alessandro Del Piero 0-1 Danny Dyer.
The England right-back called into action for the first time, and makes sure the Italian does not skip away from him.
Scanlan then cleans out Grennan... and Evra does exactly the same 10 seconds later!
England 0-0 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:37 , Matt Verri
4 mins: Kemp with near enough a rugby tackle on Thompson in the box - gets away with it. Very fortunate.
Cech then goes for back-to-back Cruyff turns on his own goal-line, beats White both times. Enjoying himself!
England 0-0 World XI
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:34 , Matt Verri
1 min: Chance for White inside 30 seconds, as Thompson pokes the ball through. Blasts an effort over the bar, think she might have been offside anyway.
Wilshere and Cole both dominating already - biggest challenge is the beach they are having to play on.
KICK-OFF!
Sunday 9 June 2024 19:33 , Matt Verri

Sunday 9 June 2024 19:32 , Matt Verri

Sunday 9 June 2024 18:44 , Matt Verri
It was victory for the World XI at Old Trafford in 2023, with Usain Bolt opening the scoring.

Plenty of time for you to catch up on what happened 12 months ago!
Chelsea quartet return!
Sunday 9 June 2024 18:37 , Matt Verri
Three former Chelsea stars starting tonight, with Jon Obi Mikel on the bench. Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout too.
Nice picture, but it’s the pitch behind them that is more notable. Not exactly looking like a Premier League surface...
Teams are out!
Sunday 9 June 2024 18:28 , Matt Verri
The usual mix of former players and celebrities for both sides.
England have Gary Cahill and Stuart Broad in the centre of defence, with Danny Dyer at right-back. Jack Wilshere starts in midfield, with Ellen White lead the line.
Lee Mack starts for the World Xi, with an all-star front three ahead of him. Alessandro Del Piero, Eden Hazard, Usain Bolt... not bad.

Tony Bellew is expected to play in goal for the World XI at some point tonight.
With his former promoter Eddie Hearn on the other team, that could prove to be a battle worth keeping an eye on!
“You better hope you’re not coming in one-on-one with me, because there will only be one winner,” Bellew told Hearn.
“He comes one-on-one with me... friendship, loyalty, family, it doesn’t matter. He is getting absolutely smashed.”

Hazard: I don't want to look like Peppa Pig!
Sunday 9 June 2024 18:00 , Matt Verri
Eden Hazard has made it clear he does not miss being a professional footballer, but is excited to get his boots back on. Before retiring, he said it was "time to enjoy life by drinking a few beers".
The 33-year-old was often accused of returning for pre-season in poor shape during his career and turned up overweight at Real Madrid. But he looks fit again and dazzled in a star-studded charity match in Qatar earlier this year, which also featured Didier Drogba, Kaka and Roberto Carlos.
As always, Hazard wants to ensure he is worth the admission fee at Soccer Aid and is determined to give fans the version of himself which dazzled in the Premier League.
"I don't want to look like Peppa Pig!" he jokes. "I play tennis, padel, run a bit, I play football with my friends and stay active."
He adds: "It's just a friendly game, but when you play football, you want to win. I saw the team today. It is quite a good team with a few of my former players and good friends, so let's have fun, score goals and make the fans happy."
World XI without Brazilian legend
Sunday 9 June 2024 17:50 , Matt Verri
The World XI will be without one of their key stars for Soccer Aid tonight after Roberto Carlos withdrew from the charity fixture.
The Brazil and Real Madrid icon has been a familiar name in the game to raise money for UNICEF over recent years, but will sadly play no part tonight at Stamford Bridge.
“Unfortunately, I’m unable to make tonight’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF match at Stamford Bridge,” he posted on Instagram.
“Good luck to all the players – and remember to donate!”
