A Somerset-born player has scored in Bath’s Premiership Rugby Cup match against Ampthill Rugby Club on Saturday (February 8).

Bath Rugby neat Ampthill 50 point to seven on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Ground and one of the try scorers was Ewan Richards, who was born in Yeovil and grew up in Street.

Richards went over for Bath after picking up a loose ball and striding through the tackles to dive over.

His try in the 22nd minute secured a bonus point for Bath in group D of the Premiership Rugby Cup.

At the time, the score was 26-0 and Bath added a further 24 points, only conceding seven points to their Bedfordshire opponents who play in the Championship.

Richards, aged 22, is a loose forward who captained the Bath Rugby U18 team to six wins from seven in 2018-19. He made his first team debut in 2021 against Harlequins and was then named captain of the first team for last season.

He came through the Bath Rugby Academy and is considered a line out caller who can play anywhere in the back row.
