Somerset County Cricket Club has recently announced the new intake of players joining the Academy at the Cooper Associates County Ground this autumn. Alongside those players involved in the winter training squads and those on the Pathway, King’s College and King’s College Prep are both well represented.

The King’s pupils joining the Academy this autumn are batter all-rounder Theo L and bowler Harry D, both of whom will link up with wicket-keeper batter Thomas R, Blaise B – who is a fast bowler – as well as top order batter Bertie M. Along with those joining Somerset, another King’s pupil, James M, has joined the Gloucestershire Academy.

Girls’ cricket at King’s continues to go from strength to strength. Pupils Katie R, Maddie R and Emma M are part of Somerset Girls’ EPP, with Mia M and Erin D currently representing Jersey Women’s team in the T10 European Cricket Women’s Championship.

As well as representing the Somerset age group teams, King’s also has several pupils playing in Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Dorset, Wiltshire, and Jersey, from Pathway and EPP through to international level.

Rob Woodman, Head of Cricket at King’s said: “Whilst we are a relatively small school, we feel incredibly proud of what we have achieved, consistently, over a number of years. If you also include our young cricketers from King’s Prep then we have a substantial number of really talented players.”

He added: “This success is driven by the great coaching staff and grounds team we have here at King’s and to the excellent facilities we have available on site. Our students are very lucky to have a wide range of sessions available to them over the winter enabling them to transition into the summer programme.”

Over the years King’s have produced a number of players who have gone onto play first team cricket and some have progressed to represent England at international level including Jos Buttler and Tom Banton.
