Son Heung-min Tottenham woe, transfer alternative - 4 issues Ange Postecoglou must solve in 2025
It has once again proved to be a rather mixed year at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Recording some excellent results under Ange Postecoglou over the past 12 months, Spurs have also let themselves down at times with some rather poor performances.
The year of 2024 didn't bring any silverware to N17 and the hope will be that the club's long wait for a trophy is just around the corner in 2025. The Lilywhites have started their Europa League campaign well and look to be in a good position to progress in the competition that culminates in Bilbao in late May, with a semi-final date already locked in in the Carabao Cup.
There is also the possibility that the team go far in the FA Cup, with non-league side Tamworth first up for Tottenham in the third round at the start of next month. As important as the cup competitions are to the football club, the Premier League is Tottenham's bread and butter and they have suffered a mixed time of it in the league since the big kick-off back in August.

To make it a successful season for all concerned, Postecoglou and Spurs have issues they need to address in the new year. So what exactly are those items on their to-do list in 2025? football.london takes a look below.
Consistency
Tottenham's inconsistent form in the Premier League this season has proved extremely problematic. The Lilywhites really should be higher in the table as things stand but their failure to kill off games a number of times has left them looking up at ten teams ahead of them.
Tottenham most certainly have it in them to put the Premier League's best to the sword, with the 4-1 win over Aston Villa and incredible 4-0 triumph at Manchester City proving that point. However, it's against some of the unfancied teams where they really seem to come unstuck.
If their mixed set of results continues in the league then a top-four finish looks unlikely. Postecoglou and Tottenham must find an answer in 2025 to their consistency woes or they will not achieve their goals come May.
Son's form
Things just haven't really clicked into place for Son Heung-min at Tottenham this season. The captain did spend time on the sidelines in late September and early October but his form either side of that period has not been great.
Son has really struggled to hit the heights at times and there have been occasions where he has had very little impact in the final third for Tottenham. The goals have just not flowed as expected, with Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke currently topping the goalscoring charts with ten goals apiece this campaign.
Such a pivotal figure for the club ever since his move to the capital in 2015, Spurs need Son at the top of his game if 2025 is to be a successful year for the club. It is definitely one thing that Postecoglou and Tottenham need to solve come the turn of the year.
Squad shortage
Injuries and suspensions have again proved to be a real problem for Postecoglou and Tottenham. It was very much the case at the club in the head coach's first season in charge as the team's form really started to dip from November onwards once the injuries and suspensions started to pile up.
The same has happened in the 2024/25 campaign, with Spurs having to do without players such as Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison. That in turn has left Postecoglou with a rather youthful team and a lack of options in his matchday squad.
Tottenham have to find an answer to the amount of injuries they are picking up as they simply cannot afford for them to continue in 2025. In regards to the subsequent squad issues, Tottenham will have to address things in the January transfer market as a few new additions could give them a big boost heading into the final months of the season.
Vicario alternative
One item that will be on Tottenham's to-do list in 2025 is to find an alternative to Vicario. Fraser Forster has done well in the Italian's absence but he is not a player for the long-term future considering he turns 37 in March.
Tottenham have to look to the future and find a goalkeeper who can be Vicario's deputy and also push him for the No.1 spot. It's about getting the right man rather than buying someone for the sake of it in January, unless of course they can indeed get their target at the turn of the year.
Whether it is to be January of the summer, Spurs need to add to the goalkeeping department as they plan for the years ahead.
