Southampton return with seven-figure offer as Reading reject bid for teenager
Southampton have tabled a bid of £2m for Reading teenager Andre Garcia, according to reports.
The 17-year-old has two assists from 24 appearances this season, having stepped up from the Under-18s and bypassing the Under-21s over the summer.
Predominantly a left-back but also utilised as a winger, the youngster has been linked with a move to a plethora of top clubs in recent months, including the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund.
However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Premier League bottom club Southampton have offered the Royals a package worth £2m having seen an opening offer rejected.
The Saints currently prop up the top-flight with just six points from 22 matches, already 10 adrift of safety.

Reading are unable to work in the transfer market, remaining under embargo for a series of misdemeanours, but manager Noel Hunt has insisted that no player leaves the club this month.
The window shuts on February 3 at 11pm, with the Royals currently still battling for a play-off spot come May despite constant off-field upheaval.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Hunt has said that no official offers had been made for players as of yet.
"We’ve had no phone calls," he said. "I spoke to Bri [Brian Carey] yesterday and nothing has changed," Hunt told the media ahead of Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient. "It is relatively quiet on that front, which is great for us. There is 11 days left so we are counting them down. The boys have been brilliant. They work so well together, and I think they know we have a good thing here. When we get these lads up and running and fully fit to help the squad and the whole group, it is nothing but a plus.
"You can never say never because we learned that last year but as far as I’m aware, Gilksey and Bri have been left with the task at hand, and it is important we stay on that page where we keep everyone here as best we can. It is really important for the football club, for the fans and for everyone. We have great lads in the dressing room, great characters and we don’t want to lose anybody."
