'I spoke to him' - Feyenoord star admits Arne Slot transfer talks after Liverpool move
Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has revealed that he confided in Liverpool head coach Arne Slot following interest from Nottingham Forest last summer. The Mexican has recalled how his former boss offered advice after becoming the subject of Premier League interest at that time.
The 23-year-old was the subject of an approach from Nuno Espirito Santo's side following an impressive two years at the Dutch outfit - including a debut season where he scored 23 goals in 45 games propelling Feyenoord and Slot to Eredivisie silverware. However, he rejected a move to the Premier League in order to stay in Rotterdam.
Speaking to various outlets this week, Gimenez failed to rule out - not only a move to England's top-flight - but also a possible reunion with Slot at Anfield. Liverpool's attacking problems have been unclear this season due to the success of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, however while Diogo Jota has contributed, his efforts have been scuppered by injury.

Darwin Nunez's time at Anfield has been difficult after enduring profligate performances for the Reds. Speaking to ESPN, Feyenoord forward Gimenez has revealed how he sought to speak to Slot over a possible exit.
"I spoke to him a couple of times when I got that offer," he said. "I asked him for his advice and he gave it to me.
"The content of the conversation remains between us, but that was the last time we spoke." He added: "We're not surprised by what he's [Slot] doing now at Liverpool.
"The football world didn't know him that well, but we did. We knew what he was capable of, and that he's a great coach, not just for Liverpool, but for any team."
In an interview with Fox Sports, Gimenez admitted it would be a dream to reunite with the Liverpool head coach. He revealed: "Yes, absolutely.
"Football is always about meeting the same familiar faces again and that's the beauty of this world. You leave an impression, make friends all over the world, and later you see each other again, greet each other and meet again.
"Since I was a kid, I always wanted to play in one of the top five leagues in the world. And one of those leagues is Spain, England or Italy."
