Outside sports sessions have been cancelled at the University of Sussex due to heavy snow.

The University of Sussex has been in contact with students and facility users, cancelling bookings to use their outdoor sports facilities in Falmer tonight due to it being 'not safe'.

The email from the Sussexsport team read: "Due to snowy weather, the pitch is not safe to play on tonight so we have had to cancel your booking."

The snow has caused traffic chaos across Brighton & Hove this evening, with several crashes reported.

Daniel Sweet organises a fortnightly football match with members of Holland Road Baptist Church in Hove.

He said: "I was looking forward to playing tonight, I wouldn't have let a bit of weather stop us playing."

This comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for most of the south coast, including Sussex, with snow and disruption expected.

The yellow warning for snow is in place for January 8.

It has been snowing for the last two hours with Met Office forecasting it to rain until 23:00 with a steady temperature of 2 degrees.
