Who it’s for: Golfers seeking a combination of distance, high launch and stability.

What you should know: A new variable-thickness face design, combined with a head engineered to broaden the sweet spot, helps these hybrids generate more ball speed and distance.

The deep dive: Brooks Koepka hits great long iron shots. Using his 4-iron, Hideki Matsuyama hits lasers. U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley is a marksman with a 5-iron in his hands, but recreational golfers are usually shaky at best with their long irons. Most manufacturers don’t make 3-irons anymore, except for clubs designed for elite players, and many club players have yanked their 4-irons too in favor of hybrids.

With the release of the ZXi hybrids, Srixon is bringing some of the technologies from its newest drivers and fairway woods to the hybrid category to help golfers gain distance and forgiveness off the tee and from the turf.

The Srixon ZXi hybrids are available as a 2- (17 degrees), 3- (19 degrees), 4- (22 degrees), 5- (25 degrees), and 6-iron (28 degrees) replacement, and for the first time Srixon designed its hybrids with an adjustable hosel. It utilizes the same mechanism that is now found on the Zxi drivers and fairway woods, and it allows fitters and golfers to increase or decrease the stated loft by as many as 1.5 degrees. While hybrids are versatile clubs, you want to know precisely how far your hybrid will hit the ball and use the clubs to fill distance gaps between your last fairway wood and your first iron. An adjustable hosel makes doing that much easier.

All ZXi hybrids are made with Srixon’s Rebound Frame, an alternating series of firm and flexible regions that allow the hitting surface to flex more effectively at impact, generating more ball speed.

The variable-thickness i-Flex face has a thinner center region supported by thicker areas near the heel and toe.

To enhance the Rebound Frame’s performance, Srixon added i-Flex technology. This variable-thickness face has a thinner center region supported by thicker areas near the heel and toe. The result is a more forgiving hitting area that works seamlessly with the Rebound Frame to deliver more than 4 yards of additional distance in testing.
