St Mirren have vented their fury at VAR for failing to award them a penalty kick in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to St Johnstone and have claimed they have been hit by an "accumulation of errors" against them.

The Buddies missed the chance to move into the top six of the Premiership in Paisley, with Saints defender Bozo Mikulic netting the only goal of the game 17 minutes from time. But the home side were left incensed 11 minutes before half-time when Elvis Bwomono went down under a challenge from Drey Wright inside the box.

On-field referee Dan McFarlane saw nothing wrong with the incident, and after a review his decision was backed up by VAR. But in a furious statement, St Mirren chiefs have outlined their dismay at the SFA for not overturning the call and have confirmed they have been in direct contact with the governing body to seek clarity on decision making in Scottish football.

Their statement read: "St Mirren FC is disappointed with the decision not to award a penalty in the first-half of yesterday’s match against St Johnstone following a foul on Elvis Bwomono. A VAR review cleared this decision without requiring the referee to look at the incident on the pitchside monitor. The club has spoken to the Scottish Football Association’s Referee Department today seeking clarity on this and other decisions in yesterday’s match. Clearly, we are all humans and mistakes will happen.

"However, there has now been an accumulation of errors made against St Mirren. This is hugely disappointing for the club and our supporters, and we will continue to engage with the Scottish FA to improve standards of officiating."
