WARRINGTON Town are resigned to losing star forward Connor Woods, with rival clubs starting to show their interest in his services.

The Warrington Guardian understands attempts to tie their leading scorer to a new contract have been futile, with the 26-year-old said to have informed the club he currently has no intention of extending his current deal.

The situation is believed to have escalated in recent days and as a result, at least three fellow National League North clubs have expressed their interest in signing the frontman immediately with one formal bid already believed to have been turned down.

Woods is one of Town’s contracted players, which means any club wanting to sign him would currently have to pay a fee but at the end of the season, he would be able to walk away for free.

It is understood the former Southport man was offered significantly enhanced terms but now, the club face a tricky decision between football and finances.

With six goals this season, Woods is Yellows’ top goalscorer and despite the distractions surrounding his future, he did start and play the full 90 minutes during Saturday’s defeat to King’s Lynn Town.

He then formed a key part of the side that won promotion to the National League North that season, scoring nine times in 22 appearances before netting 14 times last season as Yellows comfortably survived at their new level.

In total, he has 29 goals in 92 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Woods, however, there is believed to be movement imminent coming the other way, with manager Paul Carden confirming in his post-match interview on Saturday that the club have submitted international clearance requests for two new signings, both attacking players with National League North experience.

The club are also said to be hopeful of securing another loan signing in the coming days, while talks are ongoing to extend the loan deals of defender Hamish Douglas and winger Josh Miles from Rotherham United and Blackpool respectively – Saturday’s trip to Hereford is currently due to be both players’ final game for Town.
