Hull City winger Abu Kamara says the feeling he got from scoring a 90th-minute equaliser against Leeds United will live with him forever.

Kamara had endured a difficult couple of days following the 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Wednesday night, having come in for some fierce criticism from some supporters, and then opted to apologise for a social media post on Friday ahead of the game.

The 21-year-old responded in some style by scoring a brilliant opener after just five minutes when he lobbed Whites goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and with City trailing 3-2 going into the final moments in front of a sold-out MKM Stadium, rattled in an unstoppable volley to earn a deserved point for his side after Joao Pedro gave the hosts hope with a goal ten minutes from time.

Boss Ruben Selles, who publicly backed the youngster hours before the visit of the table-toppers, then took him off in the final seconds to afford his star man a standing ovation from the terraces who chanted Kamara's name, a far cry from events three days earlier.

"I really appreciate it from everyone. It's been a difficult period for me, so to come off to a standing ovation just made me feel really good," Kamara told Hull Live. I feel like it was the right decision to do (Friday's press conference) to clear up what my comment meant and also just talk about how I am and how I've been feeling. I wouldn't take any of it back, and I'm glad that I did it.

"I didn't even look too much into the goals that I scored. I was just trying to be in the moment and play the game, but it's a good feeling scoring two goals and I'm just happy to contribute and help the team to get a point.

"It's funny because when I caught the ball, I actually done (hurt) my ankle. I was trying to run off and celebrate, but I got to a jogging pace at most. I wanted to go wild but just kept it cool."

Kamara was afforded plenty of space at the back of the Leeds box, but he says it wasn't a surprise give similar had happened earlier in the second half, but he scuffed his volley.

"I wasn't surprised because there was a time when I had another volley, and I was unmarked, but I didn't catch that one right, so to catch the second one right was perfect timing. To get two goals on an occasion like this, in a Yorkshire derby, that will never leave me because that's the first time I've scored for this club, and it will stay with me for life."
