NFL star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is poised to become a free agent after some less than stellar seasons with the New York Jets, and at least one player has made it known that Rodgers is not welcome anywhere near his team.

Fox Sports journalist Jay Glazer reported in an X post that the Jets plan to offload Rodgers out of his contract early as a “June 1 designation,” freeing Rodgers to be snapped up by any team that wants him when the NFL’s new year and free agency period begins March 12.

“Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play,” wrote Glazer. “It just won’t be for the Jets,” he added, with ESPN and the NFL network journalists also reporting Rodgers’ split with the Jets.

In response to rumors that Rodgers could end up at the Pittsburg Steelers, safety DeShon Elliott gave an emphatic rebuke, reported CBS Sports.

“Leave his a-- at the retirement home,” commented Elliott under an Instagram post. ESPN reported that the Steelers have had trouble with maintaining a consistent quarterback line up.

The comment appears to have been since deleted, but the sentiment still resonated with NFL fans.

Not withstanding worries about Rodgers’ Achilles injury, age and agility on the field, The Athletic reported that the Jets weighed sticking with Rodgers if he changed his behavior off the field.

The requests reportedly included mandatory practices and no more appearances on ESPN’s Pat McAfee show, where he received backlash for pushing anti-vaccine positions.

Rodgers has not yet responded to reports of his split with the Jets.
