The PDC World Darts Championship is really heating up with two huge semi-finals taking place on Thursday evening.

Chris Dobey will take on three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen in the first last four clash at 7.30pm, having beaten Welshman Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals.

But the showdown that arguably most darts fans are most looking forward to seeing is crowd favourite Stephen Bunting coming up against tournament favourite Luke Littler, as they go head-to-head at around 9pm.

Bunting is a hugely popular figure both online and at Alexandra Palace, with the crowd always getting behind him with his now famous chant of 'Let's Go Bunting Mental!' Nicknamed 'The Bullet', he is the reigning Masters champion and has three ranking PDC titles to his name, while this is the second time that he has reached the last four of the PDC World Championships.

His semi-final opponent, Littler, is also a fan favourite having taken the world of darts by storm over the past 12 months, and is now tipped to beat Bunting and go all the way to lift the Sid Waddell trophy and seal a huge £500,000 prize jackpot.

But the two opponents have something in common, and that is the confusion they have caused over their ages. While fans could hardly believe that Littler was just 16 when he burst onto the scene at Ally Pally last year, they are having similar trouble getting their heads around Bunting's real age.

While many believed that the Liverpudlian was in his fifties, they have been stunned to learn that he is really only 39. That means he is the same age as the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Cristiano Ronaldo - but he will actually turn 40 in April, two months after the legendary Portuguese footballer.

Sharing their surprise on social media, one fan wrote: "No-one in the world will make me believe that Stephen Bunting is only 39," while another added that the revelation had "blown their mind".

Another wrote: "Stephen Bunting is only 39, I thought he was in his late 50s, while a fourth commented: "No way on this planet that Stephen Bunting is only 39 years old."

Of course, Littler knows all about having your age questioned as the teenager stunned darts fans with his much older appearance during his incredible run to last year's final.

With his large frame, full beard and incredible darts ability, fans couldn't believe he was just 16 and suggested he was at least 15 years older than that, with one writing on social media that he: "looks like he’s in his 30s and has 4 weans and drives a battered Vauxhall Insignia."

After the debate went viral, Talksport radio host Andy Goldstein admitted to Littler that he had made a bet about the prodigy's 'real age', telling them he thought he was actually far older than he'd said. In response, the teenager said: "You’ve had a bet? You’ve lost your money there because I’m 16," adding: “I’d say [I’ve had the beard] a good two years now.”

Around the same time, a copy of Littler's alleged birth certificate was leaked online, with TalkTV publishing a photo of the document with the caption: "Proof he really is a wonderkid." The documented alleged that he was born in North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust Warrington on January 21, 2007, making him nearly 17 years old at the time.
