Stephen Small has voiced his pride after resigning as manager of Ballyclare Comrades. The 55-year-old has stepped down following three years at the Dixon Park helm.

During his time at the club Ballyclare finished sixth and seventh in the NIFL Championship and also reached the quarter-finals of the Irish Cup twice.

The Comrades said they had "reluctantly" accepted Small's resignation, and confirmed he will remain in charge for Monday night's league game against Harland and Wolff Welders.

Ballyclare said in a statement: "Ballyclare Comrades FC can confirm that Stephen Small has tendered his resignation, which the Club has reluctantly accepted. Having joined The Comrades in March 2022, Stephen guided the team away from the threat of relegation and built an exciting young team, reaching back-to-back Irish Cup Quarter Finals and recording some notable league and cup victories during his tenure.

"Stephen will remain in charge for tonight’s Playr-Fit Championship fixture against H&W Welders, but will depart after that. We thank Stephen for all of his hard work during his time with us, and wish him and his staff nothing but the best for the future.

"We will announce the application process for a new Manager later today."

Ballyclare currently sit ninth in the NIFL Championship, having won eight of their 22 league games so far this season. Their last result was a 1-1 draw with Newington on Boxing Day.

Small said on social media: "Very proud to have managed the club for almost three years. Two Irish Cup quarter finals and 6th and 7th place finishes.

"More than that , working with and developing some fantastic young players. Looking forward to see what new challenge lies ahead.
