January could prove to be a very busy month at Stamford Bridge now that the transfer window has reopened for business. Enzo Maresca's Chelsea team sit fourth at the halfway stage of the Premier League season, ten points adrift of league leaders Liverpool having played one game more.

The Blues will be targeting Europa Conference League success in the second half of the campaign and also a strong run in the FA Cup. In order to achieve their goals, Chelsea may look to add to their playing squad before the month is out.

January could also possibly signal transfer exits from west London, with some players potentially heading out on loan to get regular first-team football elsewhere. But how exactly are those currently on loan faring for their respective clubs? football.london takes a look below.

Andrey Santos, Caleb Wiley and Djordje Petrovic (Strasbourg)

With no games in France over the festive period, Strasbourg return to action on Sunday afternoon with a home showdown against Auxerre. Caleb Wiley will certainly be hoping for more luck on the injury front in 2025 after only featuring in seven games during the first half of the campaign in France.

The United States international has not featured since the end of November due to a dislocated shoulder, with a knee issue keeping him out of a run of six league games prior to that. Andrey Santos, on the other hand, has started all 14 of his league appearances for Strasbourg and once again made a big impression in the middle of the park.

Santos was on the scoresheet against Le Harve in their last Ligue 1 game prior to the break in play, making it seven goals in 15 games in the process for the Brazilian. Djordje Petrovic is another player who has featured regularly since swapping Stamford Bridge for Strasbourg, with the goalkeeper going on to register three clean sheets in his 12 league appearances so far.

Aaron Anselmino (Boca Juniors)

Aaron Anselmino is set to return to Chelsea in January after his time on loan with former club Boca Juniors. Joining the Blues in a £15.6million deal in August from the Argentine giants before returning to them on a temporary deal, reports have indicated that the youngster will be recalled by the west London club.

However, it's not exactly clear yet if he will head out on loan elsewhere or remain part of the squad for the second half of the campaign. Anselmino did not feature in Boca's last six matches due to a hamstring injury.

Kepa Arrizabalaga (Bournemouth)

Amid question marks over where exactly Kepa Arrizabalaga would head in the summer, the Spaniard is flourishing at Bournemouth after making the move late in the window. The Cherries are very much in the race for a European spot as things stand as they currently sit seventh in the Premier League table at the halfway stage of the season.

Bournemouth are only five points away from Chelsea in fourth, with the team having the opportunity to up the pressure on those ahead of them this weekend when they host Everton at the Vitality Stadium. Kepa has so far played 14 games for Bournemouth, keeping four clean sheets in his game time.

Raheem Sterling (Arsenal)

It just hasn't quite happened for Raheem Sterling since joining Arsenal on loan in the summer transfer window. The winger has been restricted to 11 appearances for the Gunners so far, with six of those coming in the Premier League.

Sterling has not featured in the Arsenal squad in their past three games due to a knee injury sustained in training. The issue has come at exactly the wrong time for player and club as right-winger Bukayo Saka faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Sterling will be hoping to be back ASAP as the Gunners have games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Manchester United to come over the next ten days.

Armando Broja (Everton)

Armando Broja is now back on the pitch for Everton after recovering from the achilles injury that he sustained on Chelsea's pre-season tour of the US. Following some positive cameos off the bench against Wolves, Arsenal and Man City, the striker was handed his first start for the Toffees in last Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Things just never went Broja's way, though, and he was replaced on 75 minutes as Beto was introduced in his place. In Liverpool Echo's Everton player ratings, the Albania international was given a mark of six out of ten for his performance.

They wrote: "First start for the on-loan striker, he suffered the same issues as Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been dealing with as the game wasn’t as open as when he’s been coming off the bench late on in recent outings and struggled to impose himself, finally working an opening on his left foot that went wide just before the break, before making way as Everton chased the game."

Broja will be hoping a second successive start comes his way on Saturday when Everton travel to Bournemouth.

Trevoh Chalobah (Crystal Palace)

It is proving to be a decent season in front of goal for Trevoh Chalobah. The defender was on the scoresheet once again last Sunday as he scored in Crystal Palace's 2-1 home win over Southampton.

Chalobah now has three goals for the campaign, with his other two strikes coming against Wolves and Brighton. The defender will have to watch on from the stands on Saturday afternoon as he will be ineligible to face parent club Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

Lesley Ugochukwu (Southampton)

Lesley Ugochukwu is now playing under a new manager at Southampton after Ivan Juric replaced Russell Martin at the helm. The Frenchman did start Juric's first match in charge as he played 73 minutes of the West Ham defeat, before coming off the bench in the 51st minute of their 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace last weekend.

In and out of the Southampton squad since moving to the south coast, Ugochukwu will have his fingers crossed that he can get a sustained run of games under Juric in 2025. Saints host Brentford at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon.

Bashir Humphreys (Burnley)

Bashir Humphreys continues to get the minutes in the tank in Scott Parker's Burnley team. It has been a good festive period for the Clarets as they are now second in the table after going on a 12-game unbeaten run in the league.

Humphreys did register an assist in their Boxing Day win over promotion rivals Sheffield United after teeing Josh Brownhill up for the opener in South Yorkshire. Starting on the bench on New Year's Day as Burnley drew 0-0 at home to Stoke City, the versatile defender will be hoping to return to the starting XI this weekend when they take on local rivals Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Alfie Gilchrist (Sheffield United)

Alfie Gilchrist and Sheffield United were on the losing side on New Year's Day as Sunderland claimed a 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light. The on-loan Chelsea man played 61 minutes of the contest before Chris Wilder changed things up in the full-back positions as the Blades looked to push on for an equaliser.

In The Star's player ratings, Gilchrist was awarded a mark of five out of ten for his performance on Wearside. Sheffield United correspondent Danny Hall wrote: "A solid enough display from the Chelsea loanee but United couldn't get much attacking thrust from right-back, leading to a change which eventually saw McCallum played out of position there. Some good defending to keep the score down, including one moment when Isidor looked to have broken free."

Sheffield United will be looking to get back on track on Saturday when they travel to Watford.

David Datro Fofana (Goztepe)

David Datro Fofana faces time on the sidelines after having to undergo surgery last month. The striker came off the bench in the 63rd minute of Goztepe's win over Adana Demirspor but he had to make way minutes later after sustaining his injury.

Uploading a photo to his Instagram account of himself on a hospital bed with a support around his thigh and knee, Fofana wrote: "Thank God the operation was successful. Thanks to the doctors, the club staff (at Gotzepe and Chelsea) and all those who support me in this adventure. I promise to come back even stronger from this ordeal. Time for recovery."
