Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has reportedly 'requested to leave' Al Ettifaq. According to Saudi newspaper Al-Youm, the Reds icon has 'requested to leave' the club due to 'poor performances'.

The report goes on to claim that the Saudi Pro League side are 'studying his decision' as they weigh up potential successors. It is also claimed in the report that the former England international had initially wanted to leave last summer but was convinced to stay by club chiefs.

During what could be his final press conference, a frustrated Gerrard said: "I am not satisfied with the players' performance and level.

"I see the draw as losing two important points. I take responsibility for the result of the match, including missed opportunities and the drop in performance.

"The management of Ettifaq club has provided everything the team needs in terms of support and transfers. Injuries and the absence of key players have negatively affected performance."

The Liverpool icon has endured a number of ups and downs since he took charge of the Saudi Pro League club back in the summer of 2023. Al-Ettifaq find themselves 12th in the table and were held to a 2-2 by Al Wehda in their last outing.
