Steven Gerrard took to Instagram to celebrate Liverpool reaching the League Cup final after a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.

Cody Gakpo fired past Antonin Kinsky late in the first half to wipe out Tottenham's 1-0 goal advantage from the first leg in North London four weeks ago before Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk completed the comeback for Arne Slot's side.

The 4-1 aggregate victory means that the Dutchman will lead Liverpool out at Wembley in the 2025 League Cup final against Newcastle United next month, with the Reds eyeing a record-extending 11th triumph in the competition.

"Our performance was something that pleased me," Reds boss Arne Slot said after the game. "Reaching a final should always be special, even for this club, because this club is used to playing finals, but still we are working very hard every single day to try to improve players and the players want to improve themselves every single day.

"But we're also in this business to play finals, although we know how difficult the final is going to be because we faced Newcastle already and they were very impressive yesterday as well. "But there are many games to be played before that final and this is where our focus should be at."

On Friday, Reds legend Gerrard took to Instagram to celebrate his former side's reaching a second consecutive final in the competition, reposting a post from the official Liverpool Football Club account.

Gerrard, who won three League Cups during his glittering Anfield career, left his role as manager of Al Ettifaq last week after 18 months in the Middle East.

Discussing the decision to leave the club, Gerrard said: "I want to express my gratitude to the club, the players, the fans and everyone involved for the opportunity and the support during my time here, especially the president, Mr. Samer, CEO Mr. Hamad and the head of the football committee Mr. Hatim.

"I express my gratitude for Mr. Samer and Mr. Hatim from the first day I was warmly welcomed and I have enjoyed to work in a new country with a different culture. "So overall I have learnt a lot and it's been a positive experience personally and for my family as well.

"But football is unpredictable, and sometimes things don't go the way we want. "However, I leave with the great respect for the club and the country, I have no doubt that the work being done will bring success in the future, and I wish the team the very best for the rest of the season."

Earlier this week, Gerrard was linked with a shock return to English football with League Two outfit Carlise. However, Mark Hughes has since been named the club's new manager.
