The final of the Stewartry Province Medal competition took place at the Ice Bowl in Dumfries last week.

The competition, sponsored by James Kingan & Sons saw seven rinks from six Stewartry clubs battle for the honour of representing the Stewartry Province in the National Province Finals to be held at Greenacres Ice Rink in Howwood, Renfrewshire.

After some excellent curling the original six clubs were whittled down to the final two – Lochrutton Curling Club and Dalbeattie Curling Club.

The final was a cagey affair with Lochrutton taking and early lead before being pegged back by Dalbeattie. As the game progressed each team had opportunities to score and, despite some excellent play from Dalbeattie, in the latter stages Lochrutton stretched away to win nine shots to three.
