CARLISLE United's Jordan Jones has called for unity between the club and supporters after the Blues' 2-1 victory against Accrington Stanley.

The 30-year-old winger played a crucial role in Carlisle United's spirited victory against John Doolan's Accrington Stanley which secured the Blues a vital three points as they battle to avoid the drop.

This victory came three days after tensions reached a fever pitch during Carlisle's Boxing Day defeat against Morecambe which saw some supporters at Brunton Park calling for manager Mike Williamson's immediate removal.

However, the Blues responded well to secure just their third home league win of 2024 in their final match of the year and after the victory, Jones expressed his delight and belief that supporters deserved a characterful performance.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted, we have shown huge character, huge fight and it was a performance that shows that everyone is together.

"I think the fans came with us which really helped. It is a performance that they deserve because we fully understand their frustrations and we have got to take responsibility as players for what we have delivered this season.

"There is only one way out of this and it's by being together, fighting, working hard, and winning so to get that winning going into the new year was massive for us."

Elaborating on his desire for unity between the club and its supporters, Jones discussed his belief that togetherness at Brunton Park will cultivate a prolonged upturn in form.

He said: "I think it all comes down to character. Today was a real test of character.

"We knew going out that it wasn't going to be the greatest atmosphere and environment after the previous game but we wanted to get that win for the fans and the manager because everyone is together.

"We can say it and we can say all these other things but I feel like today we showed it and I don't think anyone's character can be questioned after a performance like that.

"The fans deserved it and the manager deserved it because he is working very hard with his staff to make sure things are heading in the right direction in this football club and if we stick together we will climb the table."

Jones, formerly of Rangers, Sunderland, and Wigan Atheltic, is no stranger to adverse circumstances at football clubs and expressed his willingness to be a leader in a Carlisle United dressing room that includes a number of exciting but inexperienced youngsters.

He said: "I have been fortunate enough to have the career I have had and played at some huge clubs and I have experienced some really difficult times.

"Like most footballers, everyone's career is filled with ups and downs but you always learn from the hard times and I said this to the young lads in the dressing room, you'll come out of paste that we are in and you will learn more from this than when you are doing well.

"When you are doing well everything takes care of itself so I think it is a real time for everyone to stick together and learn.

"When it does eventually turn it will be even sweeter because we have been through this period.

"At the minute we just need to focus on sticking together and working hard and things will come good."
