Ryan Mmaee is back at Stoke City after his loan deal with Rapid Vienna was ended by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old striker hasn't been able to play a competitive match for Rapid due to injuries since joining in early September. He had started the two previous games for Stoke but his exit was sanctioned as the Potters brought in Tom Cannon on loan from Leicester.

Steven Schumacher has since left Stoke, however, - and his replacement has left too, as well as Cannon - and new boss Mark Robins is prepared to welcome Mmaee back to cast his own eye over an international striker who is under contract until 2026.

Mmaee is nursing a hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined until March but will then be a new option for Robins in an attack which has been reshaped over the last few weeks. Nathan Lowe has been recalled from an exceptional loan spell at Walsall, Ali Al-Hamadi has joined from Ipswich and Niall Ennis has left for Blackpool.

Sporting director Jon Walters said: “Ryan has undoubted ability and now has an opportunity to return to Stoke City, showcase his talent and force his way back into contention during the run-in to the end of season and beyond.

“He will receive a warm welcome on his return and will be given every support in his endeavours to get back fit and firing for the club.”
