England cricket legend Freddie Flintoff returned to our screens on Sunday night as the new host of Bullseye and viewers were left impressed by his hosting skills.

The 47-year-old took up the reins for a Christmas special reboot of the iconic darts quiz show, following in the footsteps of the late Jim Bowen. Flintoff admitted prior to the show airing that he couldn't believe he had landed the role having grown up watching Bullseye, but fans warmed to him immediately.

Many of those who tuned into the ITV show described him on social media as a "natural host" and the "perfect" successor to Bowen, with one writing: "Loved Bullseye reboot. Freddie Flintoff is a great presenter and as handsome as ever!"

One moment from Sunday night's show stood out amongst all the others, however, as the cricket ace was joined by teenage darts sensation Luke Littler for one of the rounds. After the 17-year-old stepped up to the oche and hit thee treble twenties in quick succession, Flintoff was then tasked with hitting the bullseye, adding that doing so would be the greatest achievement of his decorated career.

Taking to the oche with less than 15 seconds left on the clock to do so, Flintoff turned to the audience and said: "Do you know how much I'd love to hit this? This would be my finest sporting achievement."

As the clock ticked down from 10, the host's first two efforts missed, but he made no mistake with the third as it hit the bullseye to spark huge cheers in the studio, with Flintoff left to lap up the applause.

"That was bloody good," wrote one fan on social media after Flintoff pulled off the feat. Another added: "Freddie is great at anything he turns his hand to," while a third asked: "Why did Freddie never take up darts when he stopped doing cricket?"

Of course, Flintoff's star turn at the oche comes two years after he suffered life-changing injuries in a car accident while filming for Top Gear. He had been driving an open-topped three-wheeled car at 130mph around the show's test track when it later flipped over in icy conditions, with his face being dragged along the tarmac.

He suffered horrific facial scars and several broken ribs, with his wife reportedly told by a surgeon to "expect the worst" as he underwent four hours of surgery to repair his damaged face. The damage was so bad that Flintoff - who has also struggled with anxiety, nightmares and flashbacks since the accident - was left "crying every two minutes" for weeks.

In a heartbreaking admission in which he addressed his injuries and recovery, he said: "I am what I am now. I'm different to what I was. It's something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life. Better? No, different."

After such a traumatic event, ITV viewers were pleased to see Flintoff back on TV, with one writing: "Fantastic to see Freddie Flintoff back on Tv after everything he has been through."

Another wrote: "Good to see Freddie Flintoff back on our screens and looking so good too. Bullseye is brilliant," while a third added: "Freddie Flintoff was great on Bullseye tonight. Good to see him back on the telly after his accident."
