Hull City claimed a first win at Sheffield United since Boxing Day 2010, and they did it in style by winning 3-0 at Bramall Lane to bag their biggest - and most impressive - win of the season by some distance.

Matt Crooks opened the scoring after just seven minutes when he powered in a delicious first-time strike from the edge of the box, to give Ruben Selles' men a deserved lead at the break in what was a really controlled display.

Despite coming under heavy pressure early in the second half, City made it 2-0 when Cody Drameh's cross was turned in at the back post by substitute Matty Jacob. Joao Pedro came off the bench to force Harrison Burrows' own goal two minutes from time to wrap up three deserved points.

This was a statement performance, and victory, against a side almost unbeatable at the Lane this season, and they have to now go on and build on this result, their third straight away win, and clean sheet.

City announced the arrival of Eliot Matazo just before kick-off, and the new arrival from Monaco was named on the bench, while there was a debut for Kyle Joseph up front in place of Joao Pedro who looked jaded on Tuesday, the Italian dropping to the bench in one of four changes. Matt Crooks came in for a full debut at the expense of Gustavo Puerta. Given Carl Rushworth was recalled by Brighton on Wednesday, Ivor Pandur returned in goal with Thimothee Lo-Tutala named as back-up keeper.

The visitors started brightly until the Blades had a flurry of three threatening corners inside six minutes, but from the third, City broke quickly through Gelhardt and then Kamara, whose ball into the box was prodded back into the path of on the on-rushing Crooks who ran on and guided a terrific strike into the top corner from the edge of the box to give City the lead.

I'm sure the irony of scoring direct from a Blades corner won't be lost on those associated with the Tigers, given what happened at the MKM Stadium back in September.

United were huffing and puffing without seriously testing Pandur, though another spell of three successive corners saw a header flicked towards the back post where McLoughlin was in the right place to turn away a yard off his line.

At the other end, the Tigers were not without threat, Kamara seeing a shot blocked before passing up a good chance to put the ball into the box before turning away.

Wilder's men threatened but rarely looked like breaching what a really resolute and organised defensive setup from Selles' side was, and the fact the hosts were booed off at the break was a testament to their efforts in the first period having failed to muster a shot on target.

After a dominant start to the second half from the hosts, and City struggling to get a foothold in the contest, Selles made a double change with Matty Jacob replacing Burns and Matazo coming on for Crooks after 54 minutes.

Brewster replaced Brereton-Diaz. Vini Souza came on for McCallum and Campbell was on for Brooks 10 minutes into the second half.

United had the ball in the back of the net before the hour but the flag had long since gone up, something the Sheffield public hadn't realised.

Kamara almost burst in, and moments later, 2,300 City fans went mad when Jacob flicked Drameh's cross from the right in at the back post to double the lead.

On came Joao Pedro for Joseph, who didn't see much of the ball, but ran himself into the ground for the cause.

Slater's curling effort was saved by Cooper, and the Tigers looked to really hammer home their advantage in the pouring Sheffield rain, in front of an increasingly buoyant away following.

With 15 minutes to go, Selles made his final two changes with Gustavo Puerta and Mason Burstow coming on for Slater and Gelhardt, both of whom had delivered one heck of a shift.

Jacob was booked for a challenge on Souza in the middle of the park with United trying desperately to build some momentum, which had been lost after the second goal.

It was 3-0 after 88 minutes when Pedro breezed past his man, forced the ball across and Burrows could only turn into his own net under pressure from Kamara.

And that was that, a stunning away victory at Bramall Lane to breathe fresh life into their bid to stay up, now, go and build-on it next weekend.
