Premier League side Aston Villa are looking to tie down in-demand forward Louie Barry to a new contract - amid lingering talk of a departure this month.

Sunderland are among a number of EFL Championship clubs linked with a move for the 21-year-old striker, who impressed on loan with Stockport County in the first half of the campaign. Barry netted 15 goals in 23 League One appearances, setting up another two goals for his teammates before being recalled by Unai Emery's side earlier this month, while he also won League Two promotion with Stockport last season, too.

The Black Cats are understood to be keen on bolstering their forward line this month, with the sought-after striker among a number of possible targets this month. Fellow Championship sides Leeds United, Derby County, Boro and Millwall have all been linked with a loan move for the former Barcelona youngster this month.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that Villa were looking to cast an eye over Barry in first-team training before then sanctioning a loan move for the striker this month. Celtic are also said to be interested in a permanent move for the young striker, having impressed on loan with the Hatters in 2023 and 2024.

Pete O'Rourke reckons Villa want to tie Barry down to a new contract before agreeing a potential loan deal for the second half of the campaign. The youngster signed his current deal before heading out on loan to Stockport for the second time earlier this season.

Barry played predominantly off the left side for Dave Challinor's side, but he can also play through the middle when required. Villa have already bolstered their ranks this month with the signing of Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen, with the Premier League side intent on ensuring Barry's next move is the best for his development.
