Sunderland are eyeing up Tommy Doyle as their long-term Jobe Bellingham replacement, according to the latest reports. The Black Cats expect a 'major bid' to come in for 19-year-old Bellingham this summer.

Since arriving from Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee in June 2023, Bellingham has cemented himself as an integral part of the Sunderland team. This season, the teenager has played 90 minutes in all-but five of Sunderland's 31 Championship matches, scoring four goals and adding three assists.

However, having received interest from Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester United in January, Sunderland could lose Bellingham at the end of the season. Valued at around £20million, Bellingham has caught the eye and the Black Cats are looking at how to replace him should he leave.

According to The Sun, Wolves midfielder Doyle has been scoured out as a potential replacement. The 23-year-old, who joined the West Midlands club on a permanent deal for £4.3million in July, might become available in the summer after struggling for regular game time at Molineux.

Doyle has started just three Premier League matches since his move to Wolves last summer. He is out-of-favour under new manager Vitor Pereira and behind the likes of Andre, Joao Gomes and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde in the pecking order. Before expressing his desire to leave, Mario Lemina was also above him.

Sheffield United were snubbed after trying to re-sign Doyle last month, and now Sunderland are looking at making a summer swoop for the former England Under 21s international. Doyle made 11 first-team appearances for Manchester City before leaving the club for good last summer.

Doyle's future at Wolves has come under further scrutiny after Vitor Pereira captured Marshall Munetsi from Reims. It's expected to push the England youth international even further down the pecking order. Doyle has three-and-a-half years left on his contract at Molineux and could be available for a move at the end of the season.

Former Wolves manager Gary O'Neil, who departed in December, was a huge fan of Doyle and said he was not pleased to be out of the starting XI at the beginning of the campaign. He said: "He will be important and he is an ambitious lad who thinks he should be starting every week.

"Tommy understands his role at this moment is not that but he has the quality and potential to be that. Tommy is fighting hard to push the other three. He’s good, he has big quality and is a good lad who works hard."

The report also adds that Stockport County remain keen on signing Sunderland academy youngster Caden Kelly, who has been an ever present at U21 level for the Black Cats. The attacking midfielder is currently on loan with National League North side Darlington and will remain there until the end of the season, however the report adds he could also head to the Hatters on trial while still playing for the Quakers.
