Sunderland hit by cruel injury blow as Tommy Watson injury timeline confirmed
Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Tommy Watson is set to be sidelined for around “two months” through injury.
The 18-year-old netted his first senior goals for the club in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City, but the winger had to be withdrawn during the first half of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Bristol City.
The youngster had started each of the last five matches for the Black Cats after breaking into the first team this season, but is now set to be sidelined until at least February with his setback.

“It should be two months to recover properly, with his ankle and his knee,” Le Bris confirmed at a press conference this afternoon. “It was a big impact, he could’ve scored, but at the end it was not a very strong injury, but enough to be out of the pitch for two months.
“Tommy did well, and started very well with the team. Now he has to wait, so it’s a part of the journey and the career to be faced with these problems, especially in the Championship with massive intensity in duels, and when you have to repeat games, it’s obviously risky. He needs time to recover now.
“It’s only two months, it could’ve been worse, because sometimes you can be faced with a six-month injury, and it’s really different. It’s just a reminder that everything is fragile.”
On the availability front, Le Bris added that Luke O’Nien will “probably” be available for Saturday's clash at Swansea City after missing the midweek contest against the Robins through illness.
