How did the players fare in Sunderland’s 2-0 win over Luton Town?

SUNDERLAND (4-3-3):

8 Patterson: Made a crucial save when he touched Morris’ first-half header onto the post and marshalled his defence effectively

8 Hume: His surging runs up the right were a key part of Sunderland’s attacking play – set up Le Fee’s opener as he broke infield

7 Ballard: Did well against the physical Morris as he returned to the starting line-up in place of Mepham

7 O’Nien: Was typically aggressive as he took on Luton’s forwards – made a couple of important blocks

6 Cirkin: Was much more defensively secure than he had been at the weekend, although his attacking impact was limited

6 Rigg: Made some decent breaks forward and was always looking for the ball, but was forced to hobble off in the second half after a couple of bouts of treatment

8 Neil: Seized control of the midfield area from an early stage and helped keep Sunderland on the front foot

6 Bellingham: Had a fairly quiet night that was largely devoid of goalscoring openings – passed the ball well enough though

7 Roberts: Made some effective breaks infield from the right and almost scored with a curled shot that hit the post

7 Isidor: Missed as good early opportunity, but made amends in the second half as he stroked home his 11th goal of the season

9 LE FEE: What can you say about him that hasn’t already been said in the last month? Claimed his first goal in another excellent attacking display
