Sunderland transfer state of play with striker talks 'ongoing' and Celtic winger chase
Sunderland are still looking to bolster their squad before the January transfer window shuts. Several transfer links have emerged with Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman in the market for reinforcements during the window as he looks to boost Regis Le Bris’ promotion push.
The club are reportedly in talks with the Belgian Pro League club regarding a deal for striker Matija Frigan. Suggestions have arisen that Sunderland and the Croatian striker have reached a “personal agreement” ahead of the 21-year-old’s potential move to Wearside. However, a new report regarding Sunderland’s attempt to sign Frigan, who has scored 27 career goals, has been published.
Ižak Ante Sucic of the football website Germanijak has claimed that talks are still “ongoing” between the two clubs and that Frigan is “willing” to make the move to the North East from Belgium. He also adds that the deal will be a loan with an obligation to buy at around €15million if the Black Cats win promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, according to fresh reports, Celtic winger Luis Palma is being “chased” by Sunderland, Stoke, Swansea, Queens Park Rangers, and several European clubs. Football Insider claims that the “Championship quartet have all registered their interest in the Honduras international as they race for his signature.”
The attacker is keen on playing regular first-team football, which he is not currently getting at Parkhead. Nor would it be guaranteed on Wearside with Le Bris having such a strong squad already. It is reported Palma was lined up for a move to Spanish side Rayo Vallecano earlier this window. However, the club was hit with a transfer ban which had an impact on the deal.
Sunderland have also been linked with a move with Preston North End striker Emil Riis Jakobsen, though the attacker is not thought to be high on the list of Black Cats' targets. His contract runs out in six months’ time.
Another potential target is Hibernian teenager Reuben McAllister, according to reports. The midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan with Scottish League One outfit Cove Rangers, and is out of contract at Easter Road in the summer – a situation which the Daily Record suggests has alerted the Black Cats and Swansea City to his potential availability.
