Super Bowl LIX merchandise, ticket scams may be out there, Pa. AG warns

As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to soar into New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX, officials are warning fans to be vigilant against potential scams.

“While Eagles fans are excited and gearing up for the big game, scammers are hoping to take advantage of eager consumers,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said in a statement. “Be sure to protect yourself from ticket scams and credit card fraud if you are heading to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.”

Below are some tips from the Pennsylvania attorney general's office to protect yourself from scams when purchasing tickets, merchandise and more:

  • Use reputable websites for all purchases.

  • Review your cart before checkout for any additional fees.

  • Be cautious when using a search engine to find tickets and stick to familiar websites.

  • Avoid buying tickets from a stranger.

  • Be wary of sellers asking for payment in gift cards, money orders, cryptocurrency or wire transfers, especially over the phone.

  • Trust your common sense — if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

People who believe they have been victims of a Super Bowl ticket, travel service or merchandise scam can file a complaint with the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection by visiting www.attorneygeneral.gov, sending an email to scams@attorneygeneral.gov or by calling 800-441-2555.

The Bureau of Consumer Protection also advises contacting the credit card company to dispute the charges immediately if you have made an unfulfilled purchase with your credit card.
