A report on Friday night put both Manchester City and Manchester United fans on alert as it claimed Norwegian prodigy Sverre Nypan is arriving in the city to discuss a move.

Having already made 60 professional appearances for current club Rosenborg, 18-year-old Nypan regarded as one of Europe's top talents. His next step has been talked about for quite some time, with both United and City amongst plenty of other elite teams part of ongoing rumours.

Now according to Norwegian media outlet Adressa, the midfielder has been spotted at Oslo Airport boarding a flight for Manchester to potentially see his next employers. The crux of that report was that his intentions remained a mystery - was he to visit Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium?

Last summer, Nypan lined up against United in a friendly, prior to which he had expressed his boyhood love for the club.

The teenager told the United Norway podcast: "It would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United.

"I'm aware United has shown some interest. But I'm quite adamant that I don't want to open that door yet. I want to focus on Rosenborg and not think too far ahead."

It appears that landscape has changed in just several months, and Nypan now has an offer to consider. In fact, he has multiple offers to consider, and they will actually come from two of the club's biggest rivals.

First, Fabrizio Romano reported Pep Guardiola and Co. are preparing their proposal for the youngster, as they attempt to win the race. Following on The Athletic revealed Arsenal have actively been working on a deal with Nypan's representatives.

Importantly, no decision has yet been made and so the situation 'remains open'.

As for the report of City's plan, it is outlined that they have an advantage neither United nor Arsenal could offer. Making use of City Football Group's multi-club model, a loan to Girona in La Liga would be an opportunity to readily offer first-team football.
