Swansea City accept bid for Matt Grimes as captain on brink of joining Coventry City

Swansea City captain Matt Grimes is on the verge of completing a move to Coventry City after the club accepted a third bid from the Sky Blues.

WalesOnline understands the fee is likely to be between £3.5m to £4m, with Grimes bringing an end to a 10-year spell with the club, for whom he has made more than 300 appearances.

The midfielder bid farewell to team-mates and members of staff at Fairwood on Tuesday, and is now set to become Coventry's first signing of the window.

It's understood there is still some paperwork to be ironed out before the transfer can be rubber stamped, but the move is now expected to go through within the next few days. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here.

Whether it will be completed in time for him to play for the Sky Blues this weekend, where by coincidence they play Swansea at the Swansea.com Stadium, remains to be seen.

One thing's for certain, he has now played his last game for the Swans, who are currently 17th in the Championship table, four points off Frank Lampard's men.

Coventry had previously seen two bids knocked back in their pursuit for the 29-year-old, who expressed his desire to move to the CBS Arena to both chairman Andy Coleman and .Luke Williams in a bid to force a move through.

He will now get his wish, and stands to earn a significant increase on his current wage packet at the Swans by becoming one of Coventry's top earners.

The captain's exit comes as a bodyblow to Swansea and boss Williams, who's currently bidding to turn around a rotten start to 2025 that has yielded just one point from five games.

Swansea have also struggled for a breakthrough in the transfer market, with Burnley loanee Hannes Delcroix so far their only capture of the window.
