Swansea City chairman Andy Coleman has branded speculation over head coach Luke Williams' future "unhelpful" following reports linking the manager with a move to West Bromwich Albion.

After Carlos Corberan departed the Baggies for Valencia, Williams was quickly tipped by bookmakers as a frontrunner for the vacant role.

Swansea fans grew apprehensive after Williams did not deny the connection to The Hawthorns, fearing he might exit just one year on from his switch from Notts County.

Williams issued an apology to Swansea supporters during his pre-West Brom press conference, claiming he laughed off the links because he didn't think they were serious and insisted there was nothing in them, but also understood fans' grievances for the manner in which he responded to questions over his future.

Williams, who will take charge of the Swans against the Baggies this lunchtime, stated his commitment to the club and expressed his desire to stay for an extended period.

In his programme notes ahead of the fixture, Coleman said: "There has been some unhelpful speculation regarding our head coach, Luke Williams, and links to today's opponents. I want to assure you that Luke remains fully committed to Swansea City.

"I know that his focus is on guiding our team to success, and we are united in our efforts to achieve our goals for the season."

Coleman added: "As we enter the new year, there is still much to be optimistic and excited about.

"We have won our last two home games in exciting fashion, and today's match is another opportunity to showcase our ambition and determination as we continue our journey through the second half of the season."
