Swansea City transfer state of play as new arrival gives fresh twist in Joe Low pursuit
Swansea City's January hasn't yet take off, but work is certainly well under way behind the scenes as the club bid to strengthen the squad available to Luke Williams.
Major surgery of the squad appears unlikely, with the expectation that two to three arrivals would likely be the extent of this winter's recruitment drive.
Williams has already said that whoever comes in will have to raise the level of quality in the squad, a comment that might just further temper expectations around what's going to be possible in this window.

Swansea aren't, they claim, going to be splashing out on players merely for the sake of it.
Then again, there are some areas of the squad that do appear ripe for strengthening, most notably at centre-back.
The departure of Nelson Abbey, while unsurprising, has further depleted the number of options at the heart of defence, with veteran duo Cyrus Christie and Kyle Naughton the only real understudies to the favoured duo of Ben Cabango and Harry Darling.
Darling's contract situation, which could remain unresolved until the summer, further muddies the waters, so it's no surprise to see the club put a central defender at the top of their wishlist this winter.
Wycombe Wanderers star Joe Low appears to be a primary target, with the club lodging a second bid for the Wales international on Wednesday, having seen their opening gambit knocked back.
Wycombe are, at the time of writing, yet to respond to Swansea's second offer, and there's understandably some reluctance over sanctioning the sale of a player so important to their plans.
However, there are still signs that an exit might well be on the cards soon.
Wednesday evening brought confirmation of Anders Hagelskjaer's capture from Norwegian side Molde, and he's now the second centre-back to arrive in this window following the loan of Sonny Bradley from Derby County.
While uneasy at the prospect of losing their star defender, those movements might well suggest the club are preparing for life without Low, who has attracted the interest of other clubs.
Preston North End have been linked, while it's understood Plymouth Argyle have also seen a bid knocked back.
However, Swansea appear to be leading the chase at this stage. Indeed, the chance to return to his native south Wales might well prove an integral factor in persuading Low to make the move to SA1.
A central defender isn't the only priority. Early indications suggest the club are also targeting a winger and a central midfielder (or perhaps even a number 10).
Luke Cundle is an option the club have seemingly looked at, but as things stand he appears to merely be one name on an extensive list of options.
Talk around him has died down, but Noel MIlleskog is certainly a player Swansea still like, while reports elsewhere have credited the Swans with interest in young Saudi Arabian midfielder Abdulmalik Al-Jaber.
