Swindon Town are reportedly interested in making a move for United States youth international Jonathan Tomkinson on loan from Norwich City.

A report from Larry Henry Jr, who writes in America for The Athletic and SBI Soccer, said that Swindon and Bradford City are interested in making a move for Tomkinson.

The Adver understands that whilst Swindon do hold interest in the Texas-born defender, there have not been concrete discussions from either side on a deal to bring him to The Nigel Eady County Ground.

With six months remaining on his contract, Tomkinson is believed to be available on a loan deal ahead of a potential permanent switch in the summer when his contract expires.

Swindon have been struggling with defensive injuries during the first half of this season and Ian Holloway has said that Miguel Freckleton will return to Sheffield United from his loan deal having been injured for the last two months.

Injuries to Harrison Minturn, Grant Hall, Joel McGregor, and now George Cox have left them light in defensive areas and a move for Tomkinson would help to ease that pressure.

The 22-year-old joined Norwich in 2022 having previously played at FC Dallas and Solar SC and has since made three senior appearances at Carrow Road, one of which was in the Championship when he played the full 90 minutes during a 1-0 defeat to Burnley in October 2022.

During the last two seasons, Tomkinson has had loan spells at Stevenage during their League Two promotion season as he made seven appearances and then last year he played 23 times for Bradford City.

Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup decided in the summer that he was not in his plans for the first team and he has spent the first half of this campaign playing in the under-21s.

Tomkinson has also played for the under-17s and the under-23s for the United States.

Bradford retain an interest in the player having had him on loan last season and Graham Alexander spoke very highly of him last season.

He told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus last March: "He's got massive potential. He's been in our team regularly now for a few months, when both he and Ciaran Kelly didn't play much prior to that.

"Whatever we challenge him with or talk to him about, he takes it on board. As an athletic centre-back, there’s none better than him."
