Swindon Town’s new goalkeeper said that he believes that the club are capable of big things as they look to push forward in the second part of the season.

The 31-year-old became Swindon’s only signing of deadline day when he completed a permanent switch from promotion-chasing Port Vale.

Swindon have shared the number one spot between Jack Bycroft and Dan Barden so far this term but Ripley will be hoping to cement his place in the line-up down the stretch and could make his debut this weekend against the club he just left.

Speaking to club media after joining the club, Ripley said that arriving at Swindon, he got the sense that the club was capable of accomplishing big things.

He said: “I had a little bit of interest from other clubs but talking to the manager [Ian Holloway] made it a pretty simple decision.

“After speaking to him, he seemed like someone I could relate to and that I really want to work with.

“Ian gave me a call and asked if I was interested and wanted to come down, which I was, and he told me what he wanted from me, what he wanted from the club, what he expects from us as players, and what he really wants to do this season, which is get into the playoffs.

“That is something you can easily do if you just rack up the games like you have done recently and then you can climb that table pretty quickly.

“Mildy [Steve Mildenhall, goalkeeping coach], I have just met him today and he is larger than life and likes to have a chat, I think that me and him will get along.

“This is a great stadium, the pitch looks great. It has been a while since I played here, I think the last time was when I was at Oldham [Athletic], so it has been a while.

“Swindon is a club that I have always kept my eye on because I think that they can do big things and I am here now.”

Ripley played alongside Ryan Delaney whilst the pair were at Morecambe and he revealed the interaction they had once the interest began as he started to look into what Swindon might have to offer.

He said: “[Have you had a chance to catch up with Delaney ahead of the move?] Not particularly.

“I think that he heard about a rumour that I might be coming here and he messaged me saying ‘Coming to Swindon?’ with the eyes emoji.

“I said that I might be but that I didn’t know yet, that is all I have really said to him but we will have a catch up tomorrow.

“I watched the game [against Carlisle United] on Saturday with my partner as I wanted to see how Swindon play and how I can fit in the team.

“The lads were incredible, they did amazing to get that win as it is not an easy place to go to and it is an exciting time here.”
