Update on Swindon legend John Trollope after health scare
Swindon Town legend John Trollope is making a strong recovery after being admitted into hospital in January.
Trollope made almost 900 appearances for Swindon, only behind Dean Lewington for the number of matches played for one English club, and was part of the finest moment in the club’s history as he helped them to League Cup glory in 1969.
Born in Wrought, he has also been the manager, assistant manager, coach, and in charge of the youth team at Town he has made a huge mark on the club.
Last month it was announced that the 81-year-old had been admitted into hospital.
But in a statement on February 20, Swindon announced on X that: “We visited John Trollope alongside the Swindon Town Community Foundation this afternoon and are delighted to see him making a speedy recovery following surgery. Can’t wait to see you back at the County Ground soon, John.”
After he went to hospital, the Community Foundation unveiled their appeal to raise £100,000 to build a statue of the club great at Foundation Park.
As of the Advisory Board minutes published on February 19, donations from The Nigel Eady Trust, The Official Supporters Club, the EFL, TrustSTFC, and others have seen them raise £40,000 so far.
