New Swindon Speedway venue approaches starting line as plans are unveiled
Hopes for a new home for Swindon Speedway and other motorsports near the town have moved forward after plans were unveiled.
Swindon Motorsports, the consortium aiming to bring speedway back, is preparing an application for permission for a stadium and track at Studley Grange.
The site is just south of the railway line and a few minute's drive from junction 16 of the M4.
But first, the group wants to hear the views of members of the public.
A public consultation has been launched on the proposals for a motorsports hub at the location, which is actually in Wiltshire Council’s patch, and equidistant from Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett.

The company says its plans include: “A speedway track and associated infrastructure to host speedway racing and training, to serve as the home of the Swindon Robins.
There will also be: “A racing-specification karting circuit for recreational and competitive use, a multi-use events arena with an expandable capacity of up to 3,000 and facilities for refreshment and recreation, including themed retail and food/beverage outlet.
As well as the sports facilities the company is planning: “A small complex of business units arranged around a landscaped courtyard providing office, meeting and workshop space, aimed at start-up motorsport-related enterprises” and even: “the restoration and reuse of a Grade II-listed farm building.”
Terry Russell, Chairman of Swindon Motorsports and Swindon Speedway, said: “After many months of hard work to get us to this stage, I am delighted that we are now going public with our plans for The Studley Grange Motorsports Hub.
“This represents the best and most realistic opportunity to bring speedway back to Swindon, and I encourage all speedway supporters to engage with the consultation and submit your thoughts on our plans.
“As the promoter of speedway in Swindon for over 20 years, I am keen to involve as many Robins supporters as possible and hoping for your support of this planning application.
“I am excited for the future and truly believe that we are on the cusp of securing a long-term viable future for speedway and motorsports in Swindon.”

A public exhibition and drop-in session has been arranged for an in-person exhibition event that will take place on Saturday, February 15, between noon and 6pm at Royal Wootton Bassett Memorial Hall, Station Road in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Swindon Motorsports says it will apply to Wiltshire Council this spring and hopes a decision will be made this year.
