Swindon winger Sean McGurk has had his loan spell at Yeovil Town extended until the end of the season.

Yeovil manager Mark Cooper confirmed that McGurk would be staying with the National League side until the summer at the club's fans' forum on Tuesday, January 21.

Swindon had originally agreed to loan the 21-year-old on a one-month deal that would have expired on Tuesday.

However, McGurk has becoming an instant fan favourite at Huish Park, scoring twice in five appearances, prompting the two sides to reach an agreement on the winger's short-term future.

Cooper said: "We have agreed to keep him until the end of the season. I had a brilliant conversation with Ian [Holloway] last night, he loves Sean to bits, but Sean just wants to play. He has great ability, we need to get him fitter but he is one that takes the level up.

"He has enjoyed his time and he will be a good one for us for the rest of the season."

McGurk has scored three times in 20 appearances for The Robins since joining the club in February 2024, after coming through the youth academy at Leeds United.

After being kept on the fringes of previous manager Mark Kennedy's squad, a positive start to life under Holloway attracted praise from his new gaffer.

However, McGurk's playing time became limited since he was substituted at half-time against Accrington Stanley in November, causing him to leave on loan in the search of more first-team minutes.

Holloway had said earlier this week that he was undecided on whether McGurk would be returning to his squad for the remainder of the season.

He said: “I have no idea at this precise moment. That is my answer.

“I let him go for a month because I wanted to see what he could do down there but I haven’t looked at his clips yet.

“I will look at his clips and I will talk to them about his long-term future but that depends on who I bring in."

Yeovil currently sit 12th in the National League, three points adrift of the play-offs.

Swindon find themselves eight points clear of the League Two relegation zone in 18th, and will now be without McGurk as they look to avoid joining Yeovil in the non-league next season.
