Swindon's biggest weakness has become their biggest strength - Cox
George Cox said that Swindon Town’s biggest weakness has become their biggest strength in recent weeks as their form has turned around.
Swindon hit their low point of the season at the start of December when they lost 4-0 against Colchester United and went to the bottom of League Two.
After that game, Ian Holloway described the performance as “unacceptable” and said that he did not recognise the performances of his players in the match.
But one month later, Swindon have lost just once across all competitions and began 2025 with a last-minute 3-2 victory over Colchester having been behind with ten minutes to play.
After the game, Cox said that he felt that resilience had been the biggest improvement in the squad in the time between the very disparate performances against the Essex club.
He said: “That was a really satisfying win because I think that we have turned a corner now.
“We are starting to build a good bit of momentum and show a bit of resilience in every game, which is the most important thing.
“I think that resilience is the biggest strength in our game at the moment, which you would probably say was our biggest downfall a month to six weeks ago. It is that resilience amongst the boys [which has changed the most].
“I thought that we started the second half quite poorly, they were battering us for 20 minutes in that second half and the old us would maybe have gone into our shells and conceded another goal.
“So I am really happy for the boys that we came through that and scoring the winning goal tops it off.”
Holloway added that he felt the team’s communication had come on a long way and is aiding their recent run of results.
He said: “I have had belief right from the off, as soon as I saw them training and what they have got to realise is that they can help each other.
“This is all I have been telling them, players do not communicate anything like they used to especially the senior ones.
“My lot are starting to do it and you can see it, so that makes you start to believe in yourself more when you know that your teammate is helping you.
“That is how it is starting to come, other people don’t do it and we are starting to do it.”
