Andy Walker reckons it would NOT be a surprise to see Celtic bring in a "big name" loanee like Tammy Abraham this month.

Celtic are preparing for life without Kyogo Furuhashi with the striker on the brink of a £10m switch to Stade Rennes - which would leave Adam Idah and Johnny Kenny as Brendan Rodgers' two options up front for the remainder of the season if a January arrival can't be secured. Brondby's forward Mathias Kvistgaarden had emerged as the top target but former Hoops' star Walker reckons the club could move for a high-profile target to replace the Japanese international.

England international Abraham joined Milan last summer in an exchange of loans with Alexis Saelemaekers going to Roma last summer. But he has struggled to impress for the the Rossoneri - netting just twice so far this season - and speculation has ramped up Italy that he could be sent back to the Eternal City before the end of January.

Walker was asked about the prospect of loaning in Abraham for the remainder of the season on the Go Radio Football Show, responding: "I wouldn't be surprised if Celtic brought in a big name player on loan - someone that we are all familiar with. Someone who has a good reputation, a good pedigree. Whether it's for the long-term that remains to be seen."

With Jota and Kieran Tierney inching closer to a return to Celtic Park this summer, Odsonne Edouard's name has been thrown into the mix by punters online. The Frenchman - who is currently on loan at Leicester City from Crystal Palace - as reportedly turned down the chance to join Atlanta United in a £15m deal.

That has sparked suggestions that Hoops' boss Rodgers could turn to a player he signed for Celtic in 2017 as he searches for Kyogo's successor. However, FIFA rules would not allow the 27-year-old to play for another side in Europe this season as players can only feature for two clubs across a season.
