TEAM NEWS: Evatt issues Baxter and Toal updates for Exeter trip
Nathan Baxter is available for the trip to Exeter but Wanderers will make a late call on Eoin Toal’s involvement against the Grecians.
Baxter was named on the bench at Mansfield after suffering a broken nose against Lincoln a few days prior, with Luke Southwood starting between the sticks at Field Mill in his absence.
Toal did not make the squad against the Stags. The Northern Irish international had started against Lincoln and got just over an hour under his belt before being replaced by Will Forrester.
However, he reported an issue with his hamstring ahead of the Mansfield trip and Bolton are being cautious with the centre-back, who previously spent a couple of months on the sidelines.
“Nathan is fine,” Ian Evatt confirmed. “Eoin, we are still looking at and doing some more research.
“We obviously can’t take a risk to lose him for a prolonged period. We will have a look at how he is over the next 24 hours.
“Things have obviously got a lot better from where he was at the start of the week, but we will make a decision late on him.”
Wanderers are still waiting for an update on Kyle Dempsey and whether the midfielder could play again this season.
Dempsey has been out of action since the defeat at Birmingham in October and was on the cusp of returning to the first-team picture when he suffered another setback with his knee.
The 29-year-old should learn next week if he needs a major operation, which would cut his campaign short, or a minor procedure that would keep him out for a couple more months.
“As it stands, we are no clearer on the exact prognosis,” Evatt explained. “We are waiting for him to get into see the specialist.
“Obviously, it is New Year and people return to work at different times such as consultants. I think he has an appointment next week and it will be a lot clearer then.
“It is mentally challenging for him, of course. It is a difficult thing to accept, especially when he had been through the injury, gone through the process and it was literally ticking the final boxes before returning to play.
“Very frustrating for him but all we can do is try to support him and give him confidence that he has people around him who care about him and want him to get back on the pitch as soon as he can.”
