Teen, 16, charged with alleged pyro use at Morton game as police probe assault on boy
A 16-YEAR-OLD has been charged in connection with an incident involving the alleged use of pyrotechnics during Morton's clash against Partick Thistle on Saturday.
Morton bosses spoke out on Saturday after pyrotechnics which emitted blue smoke were hurled onto the pitch at Firhill ahead of kick off.
Police now say they have also been made aware of a 13-year-old boy being assaulted in the Firhill Street area of Glasgow shortly after the match and are investigating the incident.
Reports that a young boy of the same age had been 'mugged' by a 'gang' of away supporters swirled on social media following Saturday's fixture.
The two alleged incidents have provoked Cappielow chiefs to issue a pair of excoriating statements condemning those involved.
In their latest message, a Morton spokesperson said: "To make it abundantly clear, these people are not true Greenock Morton supporters in respect of the way they conduct themselves and the acts which they have taken part in.

"We express nothing but disgust at what has been brought to our attention, and we hope that true Greenock Morton supporters will assist us in identifying these individuals so that the appropriate action can be taken at the easiest opportunity including police involvement.
"We appreciate the short- and long-term impact that this experience could have on the young person and want to ensure that his wellbeing and involvement in football is not affected by this.
"As a community-owned football club, we should take pride in being passionate, supportive, and together without it leading to violence and physical abuse.
"We do not believe that the incident outlined above is representative of what our supporters stand for."
The alleged incidents have overshadowed a creditable outing for Dougie Imrie's men, which saw them claim a 2-2 draw.
Referring to the alleged pyrotechnics incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 16-year-old youth has been charged in connection with the use of pyrotechnics during the Partick Thistle v Greenock Morton match on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
In a further comment regarding the second incident, they added: “Around 5pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025 we were made aware of the assault of a 13-year-old boy in the Firhill Street area of Glasgow.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
