Teenage Stirling defender satisfied after helping to blank hot-shot Fifers
On-loan Stirling Albion defender Leyton Grant was happy to bask in the satisfaction of a clean sheet against League Two’s most prolific attack and stressed that helping keep the opposition out is personal.
The Rangers youngster, who has become a regular fixture in Alan Maybury’s backline since his arrival on loan in January, turned in a man-of-the-match display to blank out an East Fife side that had banged in a whopping 51 goals this season.
But that strike force, including the division’s top scorer Alan Trouten, was largely kept quiet all afternoon by an impressive Binos defence keen to respond after conceding soft goals in the 3-0 defeat against Stranraer.

Dale Hilson’s close-range header sealed the points for Stirling, marking a deserved win against the Fifers in a result that keeps Albion firmly in the hunt for the final promotion play-off spot.
After the match, Grant told the Observer: “It was a tough game, we knew what they were going to do in terms of how they attack, the style of play they prefer, so there was a lot of preparation through the week and then just expressing ourselves was important; that was the message from the gaffer.
“I just hate losing goals — so it’s brilliant when you get a clean sheet like that and defend well as a team like we did, it really makes your day.
“We were really poor last week and everyone in the dressing room knew that, and it was maybe partly due to the pitch.
“We know when we come here that we look to perform and dominate teams, and I feel like that was something we managed to do today.”
Stirling will be aiming to keep up the momentum from the weekend win as they head out on their travels in the next couple of games, beginning with a tricky trip to Ainslie Park to take on Spartans in a match that could prove crucial in deciding the main challengers to the top four.
Grant will have another top marksman in his sights, with Blair Henderson having a good record against Stirling this season, with three goals in his last two games against the Binos.
But the 18-year-old is aiming to repay the faith placed in him by Stirling boss Maybury in helping secure an away win, which would see Albion leap over their opposition back into fifth place.
“I really appreciate the fact the gaffer has given me these chances to be in the team and I just need to keep taking it week-by-week,” Grant continued.
“The margins are so minimal and you have to just constantly be on your toes, never dropping your concentration level and always being aware. I prefer that pressure being on you.”
