Coventry City were on song when two high profile special guests were at the CBS Arena to see a 2-1 victory over Watford that helped push them to within touching distance of the Championship play-off place.

Leamington-born Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is a life-long Sky Blues fan, and was invited to the game with his wife, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, by club owner Doug King.

They watched the match from the directors' box after meeting head coach Frank Lampard and his players, including star striker Haji Wright, in the CBS Arena home dressing room. And their presence certainly seemed to inspire City, who went on to claim a third successive victory.

The VIPs saw City take a first half lead when Victor Torp converted a Jack Rudoni cross in the box and then the Dane doubled the home side’s advantage with a stunning 75th minute free-kick. The Hornets then pulled a goal back to make for a nervous end to the game which came as the Championship club’s third consecutive Championship victory to put them six points off the play-off places.

Horner, 51, is not the only Formula One boss to follow the Sky Blues. Haas team principal’s Ayao Komatsu is also a huge fan who visited the stadium to take in a game earlier this season.
